Install issue on MSD Coilpack

The factory bolts that hold down the coil pack have a sleeve on them, that prevents them from fitting the MSD coilpack.

Should I get replacement bolts, try and remove the sleeve and us the existing bolts or drill out the hole in th ecoil pack?

Any advice?

Thanks

Viraf

I used stainless steel all-thread and acorn nuts with stock rubber "bushings" on the bottom of coil pack. Left the MSD alone no modification.

You can use a 6mm socket head or button head screw, I had the acorns aready so I used them.

I took the stock bolts into a Fastenal dealer and had him match up the threads with bolts of equal length and purchased a set of washers to go with it. I also used the stock rubber bushings.

Make sure the bolts or studs are the same length. I had a shop work on my car and when they reinstalled the coil pak they used longer bolts and went right throught the valve cover and caused an oil leak. They had to replace the valve cover it couldn't be repaired.

Same here. Except it was Home Depot to the rescue with the new bolts.

So now that you guys have your MSD's installed has there been any noticeable improvement in performance or MPG? Or how about quicker starts and smoother idle?

The MSD because it's red, produces an additional 20HP, but this is not measurable using normal equipment like Dynapack dynos or GTech accelerometers. However a properly calibrated butt dyno will reveal the truth about the HP gains.
Unfortunately, although I have the MSD coil pack, my popodyno is not calibrated, so I have not been able to detect the performance improvement over the 2 years of use.

Wasn't that coined the "Recto-Puckto-Meter"?

Yep... it's RED!!!!

I think that I noticed a bit less throttle lag after install, but not a huge difference.

if im not mistaken....it sounds like you pulled the sleeves out of the old coil mounts which do rust onto the bolts.
