re-setting ECU?possible?

latley ive been losing major MPG, so i asked my buddy who happens to be a BMW tech and he said that its because i installed a new exhaust and my ECU needs to be reset. He told me to take of the negative side of the battery and place it against the body for a couple minutes and put it back on and drive like i would normally and the ECU would reset to my driving style.
So my question is, is that possible and if so, will it damage my computer system. and then also, what do you guys think would be the best ecu flash or piggy back for the applications i have on my car, listed in my signiture.

thanks alot

Just unplug the battery cable (Either one) and your ECU will reset itself. You don't have to ground it on the body or anything.

You don't even have a pulley on your car, so there's not much to tune. I'd get a few more performance parts (Pulley will give you more power than all the rest of the stuff you already have on your car) before I got a tune.

The exhaust and intake are the only two parts you have that would offer any increase in HP at all. With those to items you've probably gained about 5 HP. I don't know what kind of budget you have, but with a pulley and a tune you could probably get close to 190-200 wHP.

Just get the V1. No point in spending extra money for bling. IIRC The Alta 15% V1 is $99.

You'll need to change out the belt as well, so make sure the shop you're going to knows the proper size for the new belt. From there you can get an OBX header and weld the stock cat on, that shouldn't be more than $250 or so. Then some new brakes are probably a good idea, along with some stiffer springs (TSW Springs would be my choice).

You might want to take off the plasma booster and see if that helps.

For the street a 19 mm sway is fine, if you plan on tracking the car there are plenty of options out there. I run a 19 mm and haven't had any issues.

I'm not aware of any replacement control arms right now, but I wouldn't replace structural components of the car with aftermarket parts (I have heard wayyy too many horror stories of things snapping at high speed, etc).

What you're probably thinking of are Rear Camber Arms, to adjust your rear camber. I like Helix's, they were cheap, and get the job done (Without making a lot of noise). If you get rear camber arms you'll probably want to get a set of front plates as well (Ireland Engineering makes fixed camber plates that work great).
