HELP! Remove Covertible Fuel Filler Door!

Hi Guys:

I'm trying to remove my 2005 Cabrio S Fuel Filler assembly in hopes that I can gain access to the outside body panel just above it where I have a dent. Hoping a PDR guy can get in there and pop the dent.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the assembly? I have the rear wheel off and the inner fender out, just afraid of busting something diving in with no clue.

An exploded diagram of some sort would be great.

Thanks,
Lee

Have you tried going to realeom.com? Here's a link to the page that has the fuel filler and tank assembly.

Thanks, that helps a bit, but I need to know how to take out the plastic inner section that the hinge is attached to. It has like a rubber fitting around it, plus the door lock, so I'm a little paranoid about just yanking it out.

I think MINI2 or Outmotoring has a full writeup (with pictures) on replacing a MC fuel assembly with a MCS, since MCS Vert's have hte same set up as MCs, that might be a good place to start?

Thanks, I found the PDF on Mini2, but it does not appear to be the same as my 05 convertible. That one seems to have clips that come off by rotating the assembly. My convertible doesn't have the same assembly.

Appreciate the info. though.

Take that back. Mini2 was different, but Outmotoring seems to be the ticket. Much appreciated!

Well, I got started using the outmotoring directions, but I have a complication. Namemly the fuel door lock mechanism/cable, which they don't happen to mention. Also, I've managed to crack the plastic inner piece in a few places around the edge trying to get the bugger out. If I can figure out how to deal with the fuel door lock, I can probably get the rest of the way, but man, what a PITA.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Lee
