I just got a new Mini Mania short shift kit off ebay for $16, the only problem is I did not realize in time that there is something different about the -03 and the 04- shifter. The guy said the kit was for his 02 cooper s but he wrecked it before install and I have a 04 cooper s. I guess my real question is what is the difference in the shifters from -03 to 04-? Also if I can't make it work than would anyone like a 02-September 03 mini mania short shift kit for $16 plus $10 shipping and handling. I'll take paypal or certified/cahiers check.

And a word of advice, research the application of anything you buy on ebay, this is the second time I've got bite by ebay, first time wasn't my fault.

 

I think the main difference is the diameter of the pivot ball on the shift lever...

I think an 02 lever will NOT work in an 04 MINI... But don't take my word for it ... The easy way to check is to remove the shifter boot trim ring (wiggle & pull up) to compare the pivot ball diameters... You should find that the shifter in your 04 MINI has a larger ball than the ebay one you have...

There was a site that had some nice photos showing this difference.. Another indicator of the shifter "year" is the color of the plastic around the pivot ball.. But I cannot seem to find that reference right now..
