Fooling the stock oil pressure sender

Is it possible to cut the wires from the stock oil pressure sender and solder them together in order to fool the dummy light? I currently have a brass T fitting with my oil pressure gauge sender and the dummy light sender on it.

I'm going to replace my oil cooler's adapter plate with the Mini Madness one - it has holes for the senders. If for some reason I cannot get the stock sender back into its hole tight enough to prevent leaks I need a backup plan.

This is all because the stock sender doesn't have a standard hex fitting - my wrenches cannot grip it. I had to have a mechanic fit my gauge senders because of this.

Anyway, I thought I'd just plug hole in the engine with the right size NPT. Is it ok to leave the oem sender off? Would the ECU think the car is running dry?

ECU doesn't care about oil pressure. You'ed be better off installing an aftermarket sender and gage really.
If you wanted to fool the light I think you would need those wires to dead nd into some resistors. Don't know what though

Thanks, that is good to know. I have oil pressure and temp gauges, plus the senders.

If I remember right, the stock sender has 3 wires, the +, -, and ground. Any idea how to wire them? Would I leave the ground out and just put the resistor between the + and - ? I know next to nothing about electronics.

Do you have a factory oil light right? If so then as far as I know there should only be one Blue wire to it. Not sure how to fool it. Maybe grounding out that wire? I'll do some more checking.

It's probably leaking because the threads are different. Most US type senders are a 1/8 NPT thread. Many German cars use a M10x1.0 thread. They are so close that you "May" think the fit is correct, but it is not and will leak. Someone sells a T that runs off the Filter housing..(outmotoring maybe?). I wouldn't jumper around the stock sensor if it were me..

I guess I don't remember correctly about the number of wires. A single wire would be ideal. Anyway, my mechanic installed the T fitting and the gauge senders. So he must have known to use the correct ones. It only resently started a small spray leak at high pressure - the result of prolonged stress from a heavy T fitting/sender assembly.

The MINI oil warning sensor has a single wire. It can be replaced with just about any sensor that has a turn-on PSI of 5 pounds. If you fit the engine with a cooler, you can use one of the other provided pressure ports. Simply get a sensor that fits. The terminal is another story. Unless you fit it with a sneder that has the same oddball terminal (Chrysler uses this style), you can cut it off and fit it with whatever matches the sender.

As for the thread size, it's actually 3/8 NPT.

Did you ever put in the Mini Madness oil cooler adapter plate? I am planing on installing oil temp and oil pressure gauges, and I think this is going to be the best solution. Just wanted to see if you, or anyone else, did it with success.
