Finally Camshaft Prices are Falling.

I see that Mini Mania is offering NAM members their "ULTRIK HIGH PERFORMANCE CAMSHAFT - 02-06 MINI COOPER S" for $225 for a limited time. I guess demand has waned for this item.

Anybody with a stock head and mild upgrades try this camshaft? Pros and cons with it?

I'm pretty sure this was posted years ago but who's got a comparison of stock cam to this ultrik cam(very close to shrick??) for profile etc? Thanks!

Jeremy

I was looking to add that mod too. Where is that price quote? I do not see it on the web site...

If I remember correctly the numbers weren't earth shattering just like larger throttle bodies.

I'm still hoping to see a post with the side by side of stock to Ultrick profiles.

We're lucky having forced induction compared to 'NA' because if we want a little more grunt we just have to tinker with ways to up the boost efficiently!

According to the link above, the Ultrik has the same specs as the Schrick.

Therefore, that's a pretty good price.

I think they were 145whp & 140 something tq, but I also had a 15% pulley added at the same time.

so, Ultrik head, cam and 15% pulley add only 21hp and 17tq? the pulley alone can do that

Ok yeah I see that they are the same profile etc from Mini Mania's website. But what about our stock camshaft profile??? I'll check over on MINI2.

PGT you forget it's an automatic, but we will see what it does next thursday. I'm having Jan tune it. I'm hoping to break 200 whp but we'll see.

What's a reasonable cost to have a new cam installed? Labor that is? Can you pop it in with the typical mods or do you have to do any other upgrades along with the cam?

If I remember right, Helix charges $175, but don't quote me on that.

Here's a couple of links I found from Mini2 camshaft discussion. Is the OEM cam data accurate?

Got any wrench skills? If so I would tackle it yourself. It really isn't that bad with a Bentley in hand......Just pay attention to the timing, and crank it over by hand once all is installed to make sure it is okay and you should be good. Probably a full day for the shade tree mechanic as far as time involved....

I ran the schrick "race" cam (I believe this is the cam the ultrik was modeled after) with a stock head for a couple months. It was by far my favorite mod. I know it is supposed to be only worth 5-8hp, but it definitely worked on my car. No before and after dyno's, sorry.

There installing it in my car Monday. It's been setting in my garage since I blow up the motor, but it's back up and running again.

How does it compare to the Shrick and/or Ultrik profile? Is it a streetable cam or is it more for the track/right foot?
