Have to go with the FWD V8... Harltey H1.
Weighs something like 200 pounds, makes 400 horse, and will turn 10K RPM's. It's not free though.... Made from two busa engines put together. It would be my choice if the cash weren't an issue.

I have recently seena UK company (Z-Cars) that installed a Honda KA20 into a mini with a turbo. it was making something like 550bhp! However they said the swap was SOO difficult that they would not be doing another one! lol

I think it would be intresting if someone dropped a 2.3ltr Ford Duratec into the front of a MINI. I have seen it done on a space framed one.

Alternatively someone needs to come out with a rear drive solution and then stick a LS engine in the front!

Chris.

I saw the Z-Cars Honda conversion a couple of years ago at the drag strip. It was getting stock Cooper S times on the strip and was beaten by anything that had basic mods. It took them forever and cost a fortune, so pretty pointless really.

One of the VAG motor MINI's has recently been tuned. Stock internals, but different turbo. Think the owner is quite pleased with the results.

Peak Horsepower: 348.7bhp @ 6872rpm
Peak Torque: 345 ft/lbs @ 4607rpm

Ambient Temperature 74 deg F

it is $30k, but the transmition company the manufacturer recommends makes AWD sequential ralley transmitions for transverse, and mid mounted engine applications
500+ hp AWD v8 mini that revs to 10k rpm's anyone?

i was thinking the same thing at work yesterday, i don't have the resources to do it but i might ask the ls1 miata guys at cars & coffee what the dimensions of the engine and tranny are for future reference. sounds like a fun project but i think i'd need a garage, a lot of tools and welding equipment, time, money, a new daily driver, so on so forth to even consider something like this.

I have only seen BMW straight 6 engines used. THese are obviously quite narrow when compeard to a 90d egree V8. Also alot oof the conversion i have seen have resulted in the drivers seat being mounted MUCH further back in the chassis. This would be to allow for the trans tunnel.

There was a RWD conversion kit out of the Ford Focus a few years ago. Never really did very well though.

Be intresting to see if something like an Evos Drivetrain would fit. There have been a few conversions in the UK of Evo floor pans to fit cars of similar size to the MINI (ford Fiesta, pug 205). It would also be nice to see someone like Z-Cars do a bike engine (mid Mounted) conversion as well.

Chris.

1.8t

I know this is really old, but whatever happened with these 1.8t swaps? I've looked online, can't find any info on who was doing this or where they are.

Thanks

The guy who can do them is just a single guy working or of a small workshop in the UK. If you're not in the UK he won't be able to do one for you as it really isn't a kit.

As to where they are; one is in my garage. I have been using it as my daily driver for the last few years and it's a joy on the country roads on my daily commute.

The RX-53 will be my project one day. The rotary can be adapted to a fed tranny, I've seen it in person, and given its small size allows plenty of room for a turbo, as well as weight reduction. The turbo 13b can put out over 500hp far exceeding any other option. The useless people say that's stupid, but that's been the catalyst to everyachiement I've had. Plus the rotary is plentiful in parts. As for combustion swaps, the 1.6 is shoehorned in already, nothing worth swapping will fit
