Ive seen some interesting swaps an changes since some one mention Hondas

 

It's not SOHC. It's a 32V DOHC 3.2L engine. It powers the Ford Taurus SHO (I might be a bit biased, I own two )

Here are measurements, not including intake (which, if you're familiar with a SHO engine, you know is HUEG)


total length: 25 1/4
tranny flange to front of pulleys: 22 1/8
head overhang at rear 3 1/4
head to head width at gasket flange: 22 1/4
ground to top of heads, rear 24 1/2
manifold to manifold outside width: 25 (estimate, was realy hard to measure)
PS manifold dump: 9 1/2 forward of tranny flange and 9 1/2 off the ground
DS manifold dump : 10 forward of tranny flange and 6 3/4 off the ground
oil filter, measured to the center bottom of the filter: 7 1/2 up and 5 1/2 forward of tranny flange

oil pan measurements
low side, 11 1/2 from the tranny flange
then up 4 1/4
then its 10inches to the front of the pulleys

 

Was just looking to see if anyone had ever done the 1.8T engine swap, or any other engine swap, before now and came across this thread.

Once the engine swap was done with a straight through exhaust, custom downpipe and a few other minor bits the 225bhp standard engine put out 275bhp and 375ft/lbs torque. It's now been tuned to only put out 340-350 ft/lbs with a smoother power curve. That's a stock engine with stock internal and turbo. Sorry, no other figures yet, but that was on a dyno in 25C ambient.

MPG is greatly increased over the Tritec unit.

Cost of the conversion isn't huge, but depends on what power you want out of the car and if you have sourced your own parts, as well as if you have sold on your old bits. It can also be reversed back to stock if you wanted to sell the car on.

 

 

 

Not sure that a badge counts as an engine swap Cool idea though, a nice V8 in a clubman would be pretty sweet.

Drove it yesterday on a 1/4 mile sprint course at a VW show. What a hoot!

Hadn't driven it before lining up for the 1/4 mile next to a modified Porsche. No idea what the Porsche had done to it, but could hear it's turbo on the start line. He got off to a better start than me, but I quickly caught up the 4 car lengths he was ahead and overtook him. I had a much closer race with a modified S3. He had a better start, but I caught up and managed to nose ahead of him by the finish line.

The developer of the car had a cracking first race against an early stripped out Golf with a VR6 engine and won. Can't remember what he second race was against.

Cant really compare to a proper drag racing track as it was a bit of a rubbish surface, but turned in a respectable 0-60 of 5.3 seconds, and a low 13 second 1/4 mile. A Porsche Carrera 4S was doing 14's all day. Ford Focus RS was doing a 0-60 of 5.9.

When the car first went on the rollers it got 275bhp and 374ft lbs of torque. This has been mapped down to 340ft lbs of torque now. Not bad for a stock engine with a stock turbo.

Seems to have gone down really well with the VAG crowd.

Not sure. Depends on how much power you want in the engine, if you supply the parts etc. Less thank half the price of a turbo conversion in the UK is what I have heard. He's fitting two more at the moment, so should be interesting. I think one is for a street car, and the other for a track car.

No idea how easy it is. I know the £1k of drive shafts will hold a lot of power, and it works with the existing MINI ECU and body control unit. Probably best just contacting the tuner directly, but being in the UK it might be a long way to go to get fitted though!

Hi.... New to the forums... thought i'd look around...

If I were to replace an engine in a mini, I would have to go with the VW 1.9TDI or the 2.0TDI. With upsolute chip, nozzles, intercooler... easily hit a reliable 300ft-lbs and 185hp at the wheels all with a very nice increase in fuel economy. The engine is lite so no worries on engine weight and its about the same size as the engine in the mini.

I used to own a 2002 VW Jetta 1.9TDI weighing in at 3000lbs. The VW/Audi TDI diesel rev like a petrol engine. And dont let the fact that it is a diesel fool you. I averaged 42mpg city and 54mpg highway with an all time record of 62mpg. Stock engine... but with all the mods mentioned you would still get around the same milage and it would be a hellofalot funner.

Definately a lot better economy from the TDI than a the petrol MINI engine. But gen 2 turbo engines are already putting out 220+ WHP with 300~ ft/lbs of torque at the wheels with few mods. I can't imagine driving with that much Wtq, it's already super easy to spin the fronts on my Gen 1.

 

cool thing about the turbodiesels is the torque comes in at lower rpms and is linear.

I think it sounds the best of both worlds.

 

I emailed them about the 1.8t swap, they are working on a Diesel quattro version!!

 

TDI is a sweet motor, we have an 09 TDI Jetta as the big car and it's great on mpg and decent on pickup for a bigger car. Just FWD TDI would be nice.

 

what about a mini cooper diesel swap from...another mini? didn't the euro version have that option?
