Alta ECU

I am curious for those who have the new ECU, does it have any effect on the rev of the engine, they say improved throttle response. Meaning We all know if you rev the engine it spools up nice an fast, but the rev "down" is so prolonged sounding as if your foot is still slowly releasing the pedal. This is one on the biggest complaints about the car for me. if 700 dollars cures it, it would be worth it.
Also a few have chattered about not much a notice through lower gears (with the ecu) except 3rd. Is this true for most everyone else too? And this may be dumb too ask but does the sport button do any good after this part is installed?

I think more good information will be available next week. When more people get the re-programmed units that have the proper power gains. The rev up and down is more a byproduct of rotating assembly weight. So unless a lighter flywheel or crank pulley are used that won't change alot. BUT the throttle response is better due to ALTA adding more aggressive ignition timing, and more boost at lower levels. But it won't rev down the way a crotch rocket or GT3 RS might.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Adam, I was hoping not to yank an engine to replace a flywheel.....We'll wait on that mod
Whats this about "reprogrammed and proper power gains" Did ALTA improve the ones that where already released? OH YA HOW ABOUT the sport button, does it do anything after you put the part on or not. Seems like the sport button would be useless if the new ECU improved timing and what not.

We did have to make a toggle in the ECU programming. Some clients had valet only mapping that they could access regardless of what switch position. WE got that fixed, but had to have the ECU's back to do it. Kind of a pain, but no issue on fresh shipped kits.

The cars (including stock) are kind of funny. Over 70 mph, unless the sport is engaged and the DSC off, they won't build boost past about 4-7 lbs. So even with the ALTA ECU, you need to turn those off over those speeds to get all the boost.

Hope that helps!

Really? I dropped into 4th the other day while at highway speeds and I swear I had NO power, like the turbo hadn't even kicked in. I thought something was wrong with my car....I guess not, huh?

I think Adam means the DSC needs to be off, but the sport button engaged. This logic sounds similar to the way BMW does things with their motorcycles. It makes no sense unless you realize their engineers are being overly safe and trying to prevent the average driver from hurting himself.

The removal of the torque "dip" makes overall acceleration better, so it does not change the throttle response really but the car is faster when you put the pedal down.

When the boost shoots up, it's really ridiculous -- reminds of my old SRT-4 a little bit. I would highly recommend this unit.

Good info. Adam. Maybe a good idea to include this info with the installation instructions(unless it is and I missed it )

Adam,

Do you have any data that can prove this? I've never felt a drop in boost over 70. Such a large drop of 7 to 10 psi would be very noticeable no?
