Remove the grill in the MAF?

Trying the homemade CAI mod out and can't decide to take out or leave in the grill that sits inside the MAF...

Any input whether it is better with it in or without?

thanks!

I don't know if you can remove that...I think that's actually a part of the sensor.

I was actually able to pop it out.
Ran it without, with no issues, but wondered if it's there for a reason.

So, should I pop it back in, is real the question --if it acts as a device that smoothens our air turbalence...

I would imagine it is to clean up any dirty(turbulent) air to help get an accurate reading....I'm not for sure by any means though.

This is true! In some cases removal can cause significant turbulence. This was the case on DSM cars, but it was able to be tuned around. The mesh material is a restriction though and I will have Jeff investigate dyno benefits when he gets back from Hawaii!

It's quite common/popular to remove the mesh from the MAF and one of the first 'free' mods the DSM turbo guys do. It's a minor restriction & causes turbulence. It does even out the airflow across the entire opening of the MAF as bends in the tubing before or after it can affect the airflow seen by the small hot/sensor wires. It also offers an extra bit of protection from debris for the wires.

I would leave it in place, any gains you might feel would be purely psychological, but if you damage the maf, the pain in your wallet will be very real.
