Remove the grill in the MAF?

Trying the homemade CAI mod out and can't decide to take out or leave in the grill that sits inside the MAF...

Any input whether it is better with it in or without?

thanks!

I made that change in my 95 camaro it was a common mod for that car. I would imagine that it should work for the mini too but never heard it mentioned - can anyone confirm?

Isn't this an R56 topic?

It probably wouldn't be a good idea. Every car that I've seen this tried on has lost power when removing the MAF screen. MAF meters are very sensitive to turbulence in the air and that screen is needed to break up the airflow so that it takes an accurate reading (or something like that)

THe MINI doesn't have a MAF. Plus, how much gain could you POSSIBLY get by removing two minutely thin screens?

The screens are really important to reduce turbulence. The small airflow gains you would get from removing the screens will be immediately and exponentially offset by the sensor not getting a proper reading. You would do better to pretend they aren't there and just get a higher flow air filter.
