You might want to post in the Alta Q & A thread since that is the best spot to find them. Seems they dont travel outside the box.. And good luck getting a response from them if it isnt the topic THEY want to talk about..

You think they're away for the holidays?

Could be. I've seen posts by them since I started this thread, but maybe they just haven't had time to reply due to the holidays and such. We'll see

Hey now! Give us a chance to fix it if we can!

Also, there is some truth to the needing to know what else you have modded, but likely not the problem here.

Sidenote, the catalyst is included with our header, but the warranty is by the catalys mfr. You should have received paperwork with the header when you purchased it. If that is lost or missing, we can generally work around it for you.

But, in the future at least give us a CHANCE to fix it before saying we won't!

If I can help further PLEASE let me know!

SORRY we missed this! I have NOT been avoiding it by anymeans. Just never got the Pm notification. I will try to find the ALTA Performance PM's now.

The answer depends on fuel choices, other mods, ECU tuning, O2 sensor condition etc. Most of the time the issues are related to a bad or old O2 before the catalyst. In some rare cases higher altitudes, or poor fuel can also affect code status.

Sorry for not finding this sooner!

NOT and excuse and explanation:

I am gone on paternity leave. I have NOT checked the ALTA Performance PM's but I have the ADAMSALTAMINI (far more popular) and responded as quickly as possible. This is not an occasion of skirting any issues, just didn't know they were here.

Ok I just checked the PM's at ALTAPerformance screen name and there is nothing there. I don't know where you sent the PM but that would CERTAINLY explain why you didn't get a reply. (Not an excuse just an explanation!)

My personal e-mail is taft.adam@gmail.com Feel free to email me at anytime!

I sent my PM to "ALTA2" on 12-20-2007, 04:42 PM. I guess I picked the wrong Alta screen name? I didn't realize you all were using a bunch of different screen names.

BTW, I wasn't trying to bash you guys in this thread, only trying to get some answers before taking the plunge on one of your headers. Having the cat welded to the header has been a concern of mine and when I read some people here are possibly having issues with it raised a flag for me. I guess I was just anxious to see what you guys had to say since I was one of the people who asked JSC Speed to run a header group buy. I didn't want to leave them hanging.

Now, back to your header. In one of your replies above you state that the cat is warranted by the cat manufacturer not Alta. How does that work then since it's welded to the header? If an Alta header owner does happen to have a problem with the cat do they have to pay to have it removed from the header and sent to the cat manufacturer and then have to pay to have the replacement welded back on to the header? If this is the case, I find your website a little misleading since it states

Our replacement catalytic converter includes the proper approval for use in all states that do not require CARB approval. We also include a 5 year / 50,000 mile warranty. This high-quality converter combined with our header make for a great alternative to spending too much for a new OEM part.
.

Thanks

Sorry it took me until now to see you PM, but it was too close to the holiday weekend, and i am still playing catch-up!

Some of this depends on what it looks like. For instance, the cats are rated to a certain temp. They can as well as we, tell if it has been to the track. No cat is warranted under these situations because of the extreme temps it can see. And not to mention guys use race fuel which burn slower and actually can create even higher EGTS for the cats. But i don't belive we have denied anyone a warranty on them? BUt it is warrantied through the manufacture.

The biggest question is what is the CODE! I see many people saying i have a CEL after X number of miles. But what is the code? There are many codes surrounding the catalysts, and 02 sensors. We need to make sure its not something that can easliy be fixed.

WE have had some customers that got codes of high o2 sensor one temp, this was solved by a simple 02 sensor extender on the primary 02. This could be a simple answer for those who have had an issue. Also call us about it, we have lots of suggestions to help figure out what it is.

P0420. I've seen in on two MINIs now with your header. They are not tracked, but do have substantial mods.

Use the old one. I've had my old header on and off a few times with no problems.

Yeah the OEM gasket is pretty resilient. Shouldn't have any issues unless you try to turn it into a pretzel during the installation!

Thanks for the purchase!

Hey Adam, I would like to see a response to SRTech's question since I have one of your headers, thanks.

Thanks for the ? That can indicate that the car is running to rich, the catalyst is failing, or the O2 took a crap. The addl. exhaust temps created on modded (or stock for that matter) MINI's is pretty extreme. As a result the life cycle of certain things in that system can suffer.

For Jeff and I to get a better answer we need more information. Can I get the mod list etc. from you? Fuel selection etc.?

Thanks again for the information!

I had the ALTA header/cat installed today, hooked up to the existing Milltek cat-back. Initial impressions are GOOD! It definitley feels a bit more responsive in the 2,800 rpm range than before, and feels like it revs a bit more freely. Sounds awesome, too.

It gets really fun around 4,000 rpm, when the throaty growl is joined by the traditional 4-cyl. raaaasp.
