Hey guys. I've been thinking of going ahead with my second performance upgrade stage till I called Peter from M7 last night. Peter did a great job spedning like 30 minutes talking discussing with me what's the best I can do. The sum of the conversation was to work on cooling my car before adding any other performance mod parts. And for sure, he suggested the DFIC2. My questions are:
-Any one with that part installed/
-How many miles is it now since it has been installed?
-Are you happy about it?
-Does cooling down your car really give better performance?
-What about the way it looks? The stock intercooler looks way much better than M7's, with all respect.
Please help me as I'm so close from buying a cooling system.

Before you do any mods ask yourself what are long term goals for the care. Once you decide that then we as a group can help lead down the path of modding enlightenment.

my 255whp 2.0L stroker car runs the stock intercooler from BMW
You could start with a smaller SC pulley! 120.00 bucks and you're good for more torque low down!
Then go with what Jan suggested......

Cool, you guys rock. Well, when I called M7 for the SC, Peter knew that I live in a hot place, so he said I should solve the overheat problem first before going into any other mods. He told me this should be my goal and the base that I can not go ahead without. You think so? If it's the SC pulley, I'll get it now!!!

Yeah I agree with gnaster. I might like someone who does not know what is the next step. My long term goal is to have my daily use car better or almost the same as a 3.5L 6 cyl. car (Nissan Altima or Toyota Aurion). I want the minimum risk on warranty loss and parts life, fast acceleration (around 6s or 5.5s). Mainly I do street racing with cars that have more hourse power like mine with the hope I would win. Example? I dragged a stock 06 Mustang and my Mini did reaaaaaaaaaally good! What got me deverted is Peter when he talked about heat and power loss if did not control the hot and lost air flow :S
Ummmm, do I smell JCW upgrades or original Mini upgrades
? Well, suggest please. I'll go immediately for original stuff without having second thought if it's going to acheive better acceleration. So what do you have in mind Bahamabart? List me few of those goodies pls

For the mods you have listed already: Pulley, open up the JCW intake by removing the flap, pulling the plug and adding a more free flowing air filter element (ITG, K&N, Amsoil or AFE), exhaust & RMW tune. If you want to go bigger then go with a header & improved head. The important thing is to plan the path you want to take in order to maximize the cash you're spending.

Lots of DFIC threads out there, I'd suggest perusing them.

im personally a big fan of the stock unit. IMO you have to do be doing some pretty serious stuff to need an improvement over the stocker, especially for daily driving conditions.

Well you see Peter is a salesman and they make the most money on there DIFC. SO before you blow $1000 on something you don't need remember to ask yourself this question whats best for me not whats best for peter.

Hi Eric, I dont have heat problems. When I called asking for the SC Pulley and the air diverter from M7, Peter suggested the DFIC2 and started to talk about cool air techniques and use. He just assumed that.

Your posts are a bit unclear with respect to how you plan to drive the car. One post seems to suggest that you want to do street or drag racing. If you are in California and get caught street racing, the authorities will "crush" your car. I don't know about other states. Of course, I'm assuming you are in the U.S. Where do you live?
If you want a daily driver and plan an occasional "street confrontation", then why not put a nitrous system in your car? Overall, I think that would be a bad decision, but nitrous would certainly help you beat the other cars you mentioned. A much more prudent approach would be to avoid street racing, and do some of the more basic, simple, and cost-effective mods. A number of the posts in this thread have hit the nail on the head.

So products do you have? And what did you install on your car? Do you have any heat problems? If not, it might be because of the climate you have

While we may not hit those temps, I would think some of the folks in our southwest could give some info WRT heat issues.

I'm in Texas, and it gets HOT here. My 231wHP MINI uses a GP IC since I found it works better in the heat of battle (on track) then the DFIC did. You don't need the DFIC, it's not going to help you.
