How about one of you CVT owners posting a picture of your engine compartment. I would think that the only reason the twister wouldn't work is if it won't fit. Is it much diferent than the 5-speed? I have never seen one.

I think that tomorrow I will head off to my Mini Dealer to take a look at the CVT Engine Compartment, as well as the 5 Speed and verify every thing.

Not to be a stick in the mud or anything, but retail is $260+?!?! That is a little crazy to me. It doesn't even look that great when it is installed. You have that tube that snakes all around. I don't know much about regular Cooper intakes, but this just seems a little crazy to me for the price.

emobob....
the cvt's are a little different under the bonnet.
this has been discussed before, we really need to test fit one to see.
until then there is no discussion!

There was a thread back in the spring where Harmin and I posted pics of our engines side by side...maybe I can dig it up somewhere, but nfo is right - it really needs to be fit onto a CVT to make sure.

Cooperspeed - most alternatives for the Cooper are in a similar price bracket - the Pipercross Viper is over $260, the Monster Force Air intake for the Cooper is $250, the K&N Typhoon is $200. As far as looks go - the Viper also snakes around, I would give the Monster top pick for looks - or one of those nice Moss MINI jobs.

From the looks of it, it should all fit. I will still verify though.

The fitment problem is that the mount for the airbox is different on the CVT. From our pictures, all looks the same, but once removed, the CVT has a different bolt pattern.

MiniPilo, my offer still stands for you to test out the intake on my car. If all goes well, we can keep it on and I'll be part of the group buy. If it doesn't work, then it's a quick uninstall. I know others will want dyno numbers for the CVT too. Do you have access to a dynamometer? We could run a baseline right after the install, then again after another few hundred miles to see how the ECU adapted to it. I just know from getting the Helix exhaust that initially the car bogged off the line. Eric hooked up his laptop and was able to detect that the ECU was already trying to adapt. I assume we'll have the same situation with an intake, but then again, I don't know much about cars and I could be completely wrong.

$210 at the group buy rate is damn good compared to the Viper at $285. And like Dandp said, the Viper also snakes around. Not much difference looks wise. Diamond Racing claims a rolling road increase of 12+ HP with the Viper. They haven't posted dyno results, so to me the claims are just that: claims. If minipilo can show dyno results on a both the 5speed and the CVT (hopefully mine!), then he'll have the best Cooper intake out there for the price. Now go back to reading about S mods and let us Cooper owners make up our own minds about this product.

Harmini - The reason why Diamond doesn't really post Dyno number is becuase they get their dyno number from england. You know the whole deal with different atmospheric pressures, and tempertaures. I don't know, I guess it seems like a good deal. Hope it works out for you guys...

Sorry to be so snotty to you Chris, it's just that Diamond Racing has posted nothing here but a lot of hot air. They could easily get independant dyno results on the products they sell, just like some the other vendors do. When others have asked them questions on the boards, their replies, IMO, are poorly written and sound like they don't know what they're doing. Maybe they're great MINI tuners, but their representation on MCO is less than professional. Now they have you posting sneak peeks that are unviewable or inaccurate, only for you to correct the information later (I'm referring to the turbo thread). I know they are one of your sponsors and you've had good dealings with them. But it just looks like a shabby operation from where I'm sitting.

Back to the topic of the Green Twister.......sorry for the divergence.

Finally, my first post. I must admit, I have become a MCO junkie over the past few months. I would like to be included in the group buy.

Welcome to MCO noleski04

It looks like the Green Twister is bringing some of the MCO lurkers to the forefront. But beware, once you start posting, the addiction gets even worse!!

I slight performance edge may go to the Green Twister Intake because it connects directly to the air inlet opening on top of the radiator so the air feeds directly into the filter. The Viper connects to the tube running from the air inlet to the stock air box. Bypassing the tube may smooth out air flow and get rid of some of the resistance. The MINI-Mania cold air induction kit replaces the tube with their own design.

(Hi, by the way...I've been lurking for a long time now. Long time poster on mini2, but what better reason to start posting on MCO!)

I may be interested if it does fit the CVT.

The real difference between the CVT engine compartment and the 5 spd compartment, is the size of the engine mount. In the CVT the engine mount is larger leaving less room for the intake to be squezed into when the bonnet is shut. So wheteher or not it fits depends on the dimensions.

Hey All.. I got some Good News.. I was told that this will fit all NA 1.6l Mini's so that means that is will fit the CVT. I also have Green Filter USA looking into the California CARB Process, so that should happen as well. I have recieved the German TUV Certification, so I have a feeling that the CARB should not be a problem. I also have recieved a test intake, and teh quality looks really nice. I also have the instructions, but I have to translate them before I can post them because they are in french.. but that should be done by the end of the night. The Testing including Dyno testing should be commencing soon, so keep a look out for that soon.

Here is the latest List. Let me know if your in the right spot, or if you want to be moved to one or the other so we can keep an accurate list. If we reach 20, I'll think about a price drop again.... It's already a 68 dollar drop from MSRP and a 55 Dollars Drop from my normal Pricing... but if the interest is there... we will see.

PILO,
What are the dimensions on that thing? I might want to try it in my S if the size is resonable.

Any actual dyno results? The only one I have seen is this one:

I'd want to see some resonable gains.
