I'm not saying the Alta ones don't look good by themselves, but they don't match and that doesn't look good to me. The fix would be to replace the tach face, which is now available for the R56 according to another thread. It's an option, but I'd rather have ones that match the stock tach face.

Post pics when you get them going.

looks good scott!!

I think i may get the CF gauge overlays from vinylstyles anyway so white faces wouldnt be ideal i suppose.

Few questions about the guages though. How do they get the info? does it plug into the diagnostic port, or do you have to tap some wires for that. I dont mind the wire tapping, im not comfortable with drilling holes though so thats good.

Also, do the gauges do a calibration sweep on initial start up? no biggie, but its something that i think is cool..

and lastly, do you have any pictures of the brackets and is expandable to fit more gauges?

I just finished the gauge install and let me tell you-it is not a 2 hour job! I installed boost and water temp. Here is a quick night time picture:

More information to come.

The colors at night match fairly well in that picture. Too bad they don't in the daytime. Looks nice lite up!

Here is a daytime picture:

Yes, they have a full sweep at start up. Again, the install is quite a process. It involved taping the coolant reservoir, installing a adapter at the MAP, and wiring both input to the gauges as well as power and illumination. All of which required some disassembly of the intake, the cowling under the wipers, the console, and the tach area and, of course reassembly (and in the case of the cowl area, is a PITA to align). The instructions are lacking and I think need to be re-written (I'd be glad to do so). The gauges are ~95% match at night and are ok in the day, but if the satin black overlays get sorted out (re numbers, etc), I may do that to get a real good day match. My operating temp is 180 and my max boost is 14 bar (completely stock). I would recommend this install to those who are patient and have a good level of comfort working on their car. I will be glad to provide whatever insight I have gained to those who ask.

Thanks for the info. I do have a question for ya. Can you possibly post a pic of the engine bay towards where the map adapter is located and installed?. I would love to take a look at it before my gauges arrive.

Here is one that I took looking toward the firewall and before adapter installed. The MAP sensor is the rectangular wired object (intake removed):

You can buy them in singles. So you don't HAVE to buy more than just one. Or one at a time.

Adam, I'm looking to get a single. Is there a different pod for a single gauge?

Thank you for asking. There are no holes to be drilled in the firewall or the dash or OEM tach. For the water temp it is easiest to drill a small hole in the bottom of the coolant catch tank. Very stealthy installation. the instructions included do depict exactly what needs to occur for a professional installation.

The wires that get tapped for illumination and power are also located an depicted in the instructions as well.

They do, do the full sweep at start up.

More info I am sure coming soon!

You can get just the pod, or a pod with a gauge. If you want multiple pods or gauges they are all sold individually. Just let me know what you want and I will get you the info you need ASAP! Thanks for asking!

I know you and I have spoken about a few concerns since you got the product. I do think the instructions you received would have been better if the color option was already linked on our website. For future clients, that will be better. I did also address with the warehouse the concerns with the graininess of the black and white versions as well. They will also address that too.

I don't know what you mean by the cowl was a PITA to realign. I know on Howard I probably had the OEM cowl pieces and wipers off at least a half dozen times during the gauge, stereo etc. installation over the course of a few months. I dont' ever remember having an issue. I do recommend marking the wipers on the windshield with that blue tape so when they go back on they can easily be aligned.

Gauges can be a PITA period. Regardless of the instructions, quality of the kit etc. etc. ALTA tries very hard to make it as painless as possible. The information gained by the gauges does warrant the pain, I promise!

We enjoy having the feedback as I am sure the other forum members do as well. So keep it coming!

No intent to cast you (Adam or Alta) into the river. I know that I am a bit of a "beta" tester on this early release and I just wanted to pass on my insight that I gained. I am glad that you guys will be improving the pictures (they are worth 1000 words!). The issue with the cowling is me not recognizing that there is a lip on the plastic cover that must mate up with the slot under the windscreen to keep the cowling "locked down". It was late in the day and frustrated me. The quality is good and we can all learn from each other's pitfalls and frustrations-that is the beauty of these forums. (BTW: Jeff and I talked this am re the other issues. I also talked with Prosport and I will pass on to you via email what they suggested if it works).

Yeah working on that now. APPARENTLY I was memo'd that they are in the back end and need some work from me on text to launch them. Trying to get to it tonight! My bad!

NO OFFENSE ever! Like I said we ALL benefit from feedback on this and other topics. You can help others that get kits, I can re-work instructions and packaging, etc. etc. Nothing but a win-win for all. If I wanted to hide, NAM is not the place to do it.

Glad you spoke to Jeff and I hope everything get resolved ASAP!

Chat soon!

Adam:

1) Are you selling the gauge pods by themselves? Very slick design

2) Any plans for an oil temp gauge (and a solution for tapping into the engine)? If so, I think you sold me.

NOW ON THE WEB! Click HERE!

Sorry for the delay folks!

Oil Temp is next on the list. Working on the ideal way to mount the sensor. Currently, Water Temp, Exhaust Temp, and Boost are available directly from ALTA. Also, you can purchase just a pod if you choose to use your own gauges.

Hope that helps! Thanks folks!
