What is the interest in an ignition upgrade including Coil, 8.5mm Plug Wires, and Sparkplugs for either Std Temp, of Lower temp (for Nitrous). Approx cost is around 150-165.

Coils will add around 5000 volts to the spark, The new wires and plugs will be made to specially handle this aditional load.

 

That's all very nice sounding marketing Pilo, but what will the actually do for performance?

Improved throttle response?
Change in power and torque curve?
Auxillary switch to ignite my Viking grill?

 

I'd be interested in an ignition box with a nitrous plug-in that can retard timing. Also interested in colder copper spark plugs.

 

you can already buy wire sets from Nology, Magnecore, Helix and Jackson, maybe others. MSD is the boss for coils and they have a bolt on for the Mini.

 

Besides looks, I would consider it only if it would not otherwise harm the reliability of the rest of the car and if it were to provide some demonstrated improvement to performance either on the track or with everyday street driving.
We can already get a small benefit from Nology or Magnecor wires plus they look nice and aren't that expensive. (not that cheap either!)

 

You can buy plug wires from almost any manufacturer. The plugwires are from chrysler's parts bin.... Go to Summit Racing and you can purchase Taylor Spiro Pro wires for $29.99. Really nice wires.... bunch of colors too if thats your thing.

The plug wires you'll need are for a neon.

It'd be interesting to see a coil that had been extensively tested in a MINI. I have heard reports of MSD's programmable DIS burning out in MINI's and in PT Cruisers. I have seen two aftermarket coils out there, one is Chili Red and the other is Dark Silver.
