'05 MCS Upper engine mount failure/replacement

Hi guys

Has anyone changed/replaced the upper engine mount in an '05 MCS themselves? Is it as simple as jacking the engine up a little from below and removing the swapping the mount?

Is there some kind of nut/bolt fixture at the bottom of the mount? If so, how do i get to it?

I have done the bottom bushings with poly, due to a failure in the hydraulic top mount.... So i need to replace the top one now.

Any help/advice would be awesome

Just remove the 18mm nut on the top, and 16mm bolt that hold the mount in place. Then jack up the engine carfully on the oil pan so the mount on the block comes over the stud off the engine mount. To get to the bolt that goes through the frame rail into the mount I use a long 3/8 drive extension with a swivel adapter. The bolt I believe is an E30 female torx, NOT the 16mm bolt next to it. Pull that long torx head bolt out and then from the top pull the mount up and wiggle it out. Reverse for install, leave all nuts and bolts loose until you have them all started in place.

If you need a new mount let me know I'll ship you one. These are really common to go bad.

Could you go into a little more detail re:getting to the bottom nut of the mount?? I have just recieved my new mount and would like to install it if it doesn't seem too hard...

Although there are some differences between the early and late model hydraulic mounts, the procedure is fundamentally the same. Here is a how-to for one method http://www.lonestarminiclub.com/foru...read.php?t=526 . I suggest removing the upper engine mounting bracket rather than lifting the engine the distance needed to clear the hydraulic mount’s top bolt; some lift will still be needed to take weight off the bracket for removal.

I don't know what else to say, you'll have to get under the car and look at the pass front frame rail. Just behind the wheel well next to the plastic clip that holds the ABS sensor wire on the frame rail you'll see the torx head for the bolt. Use a long extension and the female torx socket and remove the bolt so you can take the mount out. Hope this helps, it's really very easy, especially when your looking at it.

How long should long be? cheers, thanks for the reply too.

Just finding out all i need to know before i consider doing it, or paying out $100 in labor for someone else to.

Thanks again though.
