Wouldnt the car naturally be more responsive when I put on maybe an intake exhaust, header, and test pipe. Maybe even a light weight flywheel. It just feels like the engine is being very restricted as a stock car. Or is the response slow because it is being held back by the ecu?
and will a preset chip fix this problem, if it is.

again, the Apexi will NOT fix your throttle response

lightweight flywheel will help but the biggest things you can do are the ECU and cylinder head. These will help. Where are you located?

Yet another reason why I want to go to college in California, although all that CARB stuff sucks...

Are these " maps " going to need to be installed by someone other than an owner? Another words, are they plug and play?

I will be able to send a flashing tool or you can send your ecu. The problem with sending the flashing tool is the demand for it

I will be announcing when it's ready. I don't want to announce something until I know I can get the product to the masses. It's going to be tough if a crowd comes running. Last thing I want is disappointed people. There are a bunch of RMW customers waiting for tunes for the RMW head/header combos. They will be served first. So be patient, we are working as hard as possible to do this right. No one is more impatient than I am !!!!

The lack of throttle response on the MINI has NOTHING to do with the engines capability to breath (Unless we're talking about a MINI with a stock head). It has to do with the engine computers (ECU) delay in the interpretation of Drive-By-Wire Logic (How hard you're pressing the pedal). Tweaking this via dyno/emulation tuning allows the car to interpret pedal input more quickly, thus improving throttle response.

I'm pretty sure cars brought over from out of state don't have to comply with CARB smog testing.

HAHA. That is hilarious, I didnt even know that these cars were drive by wire. But Im talking about the initial rev up of the motor. Its almost as slow as my 20v on my ae86(I pulled out the variable timing). But as I said the car feels like its being restricted.

Also Im totally down to come to irvine to check out the shop or other minis. I need to learn more about these cars.

Really? Wonder if I can find someone in NV to buy my car, then buy it right back and remove all the garbage on it .

Yup, definitely drive by wire. Most cars are drive by wire now adays. Not sure what you mean by "Initial rev up". Pushing the pedal to the floor basically blips the throttle up about 200 RPM's on my car, with all the mods I have and stock software. With aftermarket software and a lightened flywheel, Danny's car (MiniCorsa) revs to about 4k. The Apexi won't change the throttle feel at all, that's what Jan and I were saying, the additional features many people were talking about don't work with the MINI.

Some cars...like my 3-series BMW has a delay valve for throttle response. We take this out to help with throttle improvement. I'm not saying that the Mini has one but maybe has the same feature....
