Labor cost to install s/c pulley

Locally I have found someone that has installed numerous s/c pulleys (so he has some experience) who charges $150 labor. Is this reasonable? I have all the wrenches and sockets but I'm lacking the puller and belt tensioner tool so I'm debating whether to pay to have it done or to try and find a puller and do it myself. Is the hassle of DIY worth $150? Anyone know where to rent/borrow a pulley puller?

That seems reasonable for that job. But if you are a DIY kind of guy, you can buy the ALTA pulley and we send you the puller for free (deposit refunded when it is returned) along with illustrated instructions on how to do the whole thing.

Choices are yours. Let me know if I can help!

You can jerry-rig most of the install necessities. But getting the old pulley off is not one of them.
I would suggest you get a proper puller. After that, it's all step-by-step and fairly straight forward. My first time doing a new pulley took 4 hours. My second time took 2. Since then, 45 minutes or so with the correct tools on hand. If you are willing to spend an afternoon getting to know your car's engine bay, then do it yourself!

If you are looking for a puller/tools post in the classifieds. I know some people will lend their's out (as how I did mine). $150 is really a good deal though...do whatever you want. If you think you are mechanically skilled enough, and have the right tools-save yourself $150 and do it!

I paid 110 in labor and purchased the Alta puller for the guy that did mine, so that he could do the same job on more MCSes in the future. 150 is a very fair deal.

Had Randy Webb install his pulley for about that price (pulley included). The piece of mind and his experience with this install was worth every dime. Not once did he utter "hmmmm" or "uh-oh" ,and not once have I wonderd or worried "what was that?" while driving. I guess I'm lucky to live close enough to utilize his services. This is just my opinion, but sometimes I'd rather let (pay) the Pros do it.
