Drivetrain Alta's CAI install
Its a great combo!
I have a quick question: I noticed the filter "jiggles" , for lack of a better word, when the car idles. Is this normal. Everything is tight... could I have overtightened the shroud? Or am I being neurotic?

And thanks for the compliment rattmobbins!
Tons actually. Like a surprising amount. We do all our dyno testing with hood shut and breeze over the front of the car. So those gains published are from that situation. We do NOt recommend leaving the hood scoop closed, but either remove the screen completely or open up the holes.
Thanks!!!
fedex showing a delivery date of dec 06 shipped ground to hawaii. LoL.. (perhaps it'll be here sooner as fedex does have to fly it in)
Most stuff I order online I have to ship 2nd day air at very expensive rates. Kudos to Alta for saving me lots of cash on shipping =)
(or.. I wonder if fedex has a sub that crawls along the ocean floor?)

I have experienced NO loss of torque what-so-ever. The point of performance parts is to INCREASE torque and HP, not decrease it.
Got mine in and installed it in about 40 minutes. The hardest part for me was getting the reducer hose on both the air inlet hose and the pipe on the shroud.
The washer problem spoken of earlier has been fixed - there were two washers on the bolts with the nuts screwed on so they HAD to fit =)
I have a couple suggestions for the instructions though. Remove the single bolt holding the bottom of the old filter tray and twist the whole tray instead of the air inlet hose to remove the air inlet hose (steps 5 and 6 of the removal portion). I couldn't twist the hose itself enough to do the job. Twisting the whole tray was MUCH easier.
on step 1 and 2 of the install portion step 1 says to tighten the shroud yet step 2 says install the reducer coupling but don't tighten it until the shroud has been tightened. The coupler may have been easier to install had I not tightened the shroud in step 1.
I had 1 clamp left over - perhaps this one was supposed to replace the stock clamp on the turbo side of the MAF. I just used the stock one and it was fine.
I haven't had a chance to take it on the road yet, but just starting it up and goosing the gas to ~2500 rpm made the psshhh noise fairly loud (indoors). I have yet to apply the W.A.F. test. (wife acceptance factor)

ok, I just got to take it around the block and down the road a few times. I already know it is going to fail the WAF - which stinks because I did notice a difference in power. The guy riding with me described it as "SICK!" (which I think is a good thing because he was grinning so big).
If you like a fairly loud (not STI loud) pssht, you'll love this. from 2k-4k you can hear the air being sucked in (really!) and above 4k you can hear the turbo spinning screaming noise. All the r53 supercharger whine lovers can eat your heart out. We can whine too.
With windows up, radio off, and driving conservatively, I can still hear it a bit when I let off the gas. There isn't any hiding it completely.
conclusion - I love it but I am sure the conservative wife won't.
