HELP! Engine sputtering after install ALTA CAI.

So I just spent a couple hours installing my new ALTA CAI today. Started the engine afterward and it could barely maintain idle. Throttle only responded up to 2k rpms in neutral.

What could have gone wrong during this install? I have 2 suspicions presently:
1. The small side spigot off the silicone air hose isn't perfectly joned with the factory connector peice. That thing is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to hook up!
2. I never used the included thin black tubing supplied with the kit. I thought this was only for automatic transmissions...but the kit is for a manual tranny (instructions were vague).

Everything else went smoothly. Any ideas what's wrong and how to fix it?

Doc: Sorry you are having problems. (I am assuming that this car is a 02 not a 07+ even thought this is posted in the R56 second gen area) This is NOT normal and not indicative of an issue with the part.

First check the connection at the throttle body, be sure you didn't unplug the T/B to ECU connection somehow.

Second, disconnect the battery again, and remove each of the ECU plugs. Check that none of the pins were damaged etc during the installation. Then reconnect them CAREFULLY and securely. This SHOULD solve the problem.

Third: These early cars do NOT have MAF sensors so you couldn't have damaged that.

If none of this works PLEASE call us 503-222-MINI or e-mail me personally either ALTAADAM@mac.com, or adam@altaminiperformance.com

Good luck.

ninja_van1sh: I spent half the time wrestling with that dang throttle body connector!

ADAMSALTAMINI: Thanks for the advice. I'll try your suggestions tomorrow and see what happens.

Update: The ECU was okay. I removed the air hose and...the throttle body plug was disconnected!! I thought I'd been so careful to plug it back in, but I guess not. So I fixed that and got everything reassembled, and voila! She purrs again.

Problem solved!!! Thanks for the help.

Now I'm off for a morning drive just so I can listen to the SC wind up.
