M7 Aerogel Heat Shield

I'm just wondering where this actually goes, and if anyone has it. Its cheap and looks good on paper, but does it do anything?

There are 2 differnt heat sheilds.

One goes over your header or exhaust manifold, the other goes under the intercooler.

I've heard somewhere that it actually promotes heatsoak instead of preventing it, but I have no experience personally. I personally wouldn't bother with it.

I installed one before my last trackday and I was really impressed with how much cooler my PS fluid was. I also didn't notice any coolant residue around the tank.
The only concern I have seen posted was about under-hood air flow. I just re-adjusted the heat shield above the header to allow a bit more room above the aerogel. I have noticed no ill effects since installing it 3 months ago.

So, there are two heat shields, an exhaust and I/C.... but the I/C is only for the M7 or Alta direct flow I/C's right? IE... it would be impractial for the stock one? (I plan to get a better one, but cant afford it now)

I don't have either, so I'm just passing along hearsay. From what I've been told and read in other threads, the one that goes over the exhaust is a decent idea as it helps keep some of the heat from the exhaust manifold out of the engine compartment, and therefor away from the intake. I don't recall hearing any negatives about it.

The one that goes under the intercooler is really best used only with the DFIC. If you put it under a stock type downflow intercooler, it can actually block the path of the air exiting the cooler - not good.

I am sure you will get some, but nowhere near what it was before. I know from my own installation the both of the reservoirs are cooler than before. I have also adjusted the metal heat shield down a bit to allow a little more airflow over the top of the blanket. The concern brought up by another member was the possibility of reducing needed airflow from under the hood. I have no way of substantiating this, but figured it couldn't hurt.......lol

I just think wrapping the header/exhaust manifold is cheaper and more efficient.

There have been some posts about that and in my opinion wan't as good an alternative. Wrapping the header may reduce the temps, but it will shorten the life of the header. Plus this was a 2 minute install.

I have one of the exhaust "blankies",too. Using an infra-red thermometer, I measured 155F on the top of the rocker cover and 120F on the blanket. That was after a "spirited" run on my local twisty road, with the engine still idling. I know....I should have done a whole "before and after". Maybe next week.
