rubino: Thanks for the biz nez and the car looks HOT. We did the black gas cap etc. on our mule, but your car with the yellow roof, brings it so much better together. Looks great! Howard approves!

Thanks again folks!

Okay, so a friend of mine has an '06 Subaru WRX TR. He has STI catback, SPT intake, upgraded springs, sway bars. So with the intake his car has around 260hp. We were going on a photoshoot, pulled up at a stoplight next to eachother and just did a little acceleration run..........I won!!! Alta Turbo back, get one!!:~)

Exactly...Coming from a former WRX owner, there's no way he added 35 HP with a Catback exhaust (resonator pipe and muffler), and an Intake.

He didn't need to add 35 HP, his car weighs a crapload less than a WRX.

^^ Weighs more yes. But compensates by AWD and a turbo.

Those cars are only quick if you launch them hard. Most people dont side step the clutch at 5k in them. I believe him when he says that he beat him. I raced one too when mine was bone stock and barely lost.

I'll agree the turbo helps. Good thing the MINI has one

AWD helps how in a straight line? Would that be the added weight or the extra rotational mass? Perhaps the extra drivetrain loss?

Or would you say more traction at launch?
What RPM is a WRX doing at 5-10 mph? How much power does it have at those rpms? without wheel spin how does it have power at really low speeds? Perhaps by smoking the clutch?

Just poking a bit 'o fun. I know the WRX is a fast car. It's not one I'd want though.

Really? lol. I just thought that was just a metal snail. I was just commenting on although it has more weight than a mcs it has awd and a turbo to make up for its mass. Talking about straightaways, the awd helps the launching part but a downside is lower top-end. I myself have never launched my wrx (and previous one). Drag racing has never appealed to me, autocross is another story. So I cant make any specific comments on drag b/c lack of experience. I stick to the twisties and plan to keep it that way when i receive my mcs. Please do not take my remark as a negative one, I come in peace.

My car with turbo back has sooo much more low end power that I was already gone! The run was just like 0-40ish, just for fun, cause we always make fun of street racers cause it's stupid. Yeah, he'll have more top end....but not for long!!

So I take it there will be no issues installing the mods on the car from day one as you are breaking it in (besides the pain off driving like a snail....)
I plan on the install before anything really bonds together. That way there shouldn't be any issues removing o2 sensors and other stuff.

DARK CHILI: That is correct. "Howard" started getting modded within a few miles of new, the Mule at work was the same way. Breaking it in at the HP level etc. you plan to always run at seems to work really well. This way you get to start enjoying it RIGHT away!

I know I know the bits with the sound clips. It isn't as easy as a photo. I am going to the PSMINI.org event in Seattle tomorrow, then driving all night to San Francisco to pick up "Howard's" friend the 06 MINI GP! So I am pushing sound clips back again. We gotta beg scott48 to do it!

Thanks again folks!

Heck, if he/she launched the car it would have walked you.

You don't side step an AWD Turbo(with a moderate size turbo, oem or aftermarket) car, if you do you might as well take off easy because all you will get is a big bog. You have to slip the clutch in order to stay in boost, otherwise you get a slow start, such as a 2.1 60' instead of possibly a 1.6-1.8 60' time.

I've been known to taunt the tuner cars and hot rods in the rain and snow while driving an 01 Blazer. With very few exceptions they get on it and spin their tires while my little 4WD Blazer just leaves them behind.

[quote=Rubino;1687106]Just got mine (ALTA Cat-Back) installed today on my 07 MCSa. Also sounds great, but I'm still in limp-along-mode until I get a few more miles on this puppy. Thinking of setting it on blocks and running the engine (a-la Ferris Bueller !)

Will report back when I can open it up a bit.

BTW, Before I reach 1,200 mi can I park in the Handicapped areas?

Did you get passed break in yet to give us a ful update?

I just put the Alta R56 full turboback on today -- amazing. The sounds is great, not too loud, but noticeable and it sounds pissed when you get on it. We'll post some sound clips here and on JSC Speed.com once that cats and muffler are 'burned in'.

The heatshields are a real pain in the ***, but the exhaust fits very very well and clears the heatshields nicely, you have to trim the subframe brace a little (big metal square under the backseat) -- took me all of 10 min. Good system, and the v-band setup makes it very easy to line up.

Can't wait to get the intake on when we get them in stock.

Just an idea I'll throw out there... I should have my MCS in the next week. I could drive up there with my recording setup. We could get clips recorded with and without, I would have a chance to check out the turbo back exhaust, and I'll be knocking out quite a few of those break-in miles in the process. I'm about 2.5 hours away if you're still in Granite Bay. If you're comfortable with that I'm up for it. If not, no worries

Scott48:

Have you done any 0-60mph & 1/4 mile runs to see how much faster is the car compared to stock?
