Last week we did some testing at Willow Springs Raceway California. Check out some of the photos. We did surprisingly well, H&R suspension including sway bars, BBS forged alloys, Kumho tires, Supersprint full exhaust.
And Blue Thunders screamin' little 240 h.p. engine. Page Title BT at Willow!

Looks like all the rest of the cars were VAG products. Any performance figures or dyno sheets for this "240 hp" MCS?

Blue - thats GREAT! Man, Anthony was telling us about this monster of an engine on the ProMini MCS. He said the HP numbers would be high and he wasen't kidding

Love the forged BBS wheels as well. Keep us posted and I'll be swinging by your shop sometime this year to say hello.

Car looks great!

Are those RG-R's or are they a racing wheel from BBS?

They are RGR's! They work great. 17lb. Real thin spoke with lots of back spoke clearance for the 10 piston Tar-ox calipers. No spacers required. And the new Kumho Ecsta tires were great. I've set up a bunch of cars over the years, and The Mini "S" with some simple bolt ons, and some good alignment settings (thanks to info from some of the folks on the forums) and we had a car that set some real respectable lap times. The day went flawless, except for the left intercooler connecting hose. And yes, you do loose boost when the boot blows out!

Thanks Peter, The car is running pretty slick. Each time we think the engine is finally at a limit, some new improvement gets a few more H.P. I have a few more ideas for Blue Thunder and then I think it will be time to move on to the next project. For sure if your doing any REAL engine mods you need to go with the Urethane engine trans and suspension stiffeners and bushings. After about 190hp the factory bushings are so soft, that on hard accelleration the car torque steers so bad, your almost traveling sideways faster that straight ahead. My real fear is if the engine torque too much it pulls the cable shifter and partially disengages the gears while under load, which could damage gears in the trans, if not fully engaged. (common problem in early VW aircooled) Ypu need to check out the Powerflex bushing kits on our site. They are for the most part Bushing stiffeners, that simply interlock with the factory rubber mounts. This offers you the softer ride of the O.E. mount, with the stiffening limitation of eurathane.

We have a second Cooper "S" that is going to get the real H.P. treatment!
Keep and Eye on our site for that project. Click here for Powerflex

>>We did surprisingly well??<<

Uh, Ok, so how about some lap times to confirm "surprisingly well?"

Well, I'm not sure what the Mini would or "should" turn at Willow.
But here's some of my personal times.
In Box Stock Enduro Karts (100cc stock running 100 percent methanol/Klotz) I'd turn in the low 1:50s
In Open Light I'd turn in the low 1:40s
In "C" open duals the times were in the low 1:20s.
...and I think formula "B" (not me) was down in the "teens".

That is my only "personal" reference as I never drove a car at Willow, only enduro karts. I do remember passing many production cars while going over the hill in turns 3, 4, 5 and down into 6. Always seemed like the cars parked it going into 3, then we'd go around them over the top of the hill... Fun!!!

So if you can tell me what you turned I'd have an idea how fast our Minis are going at Willow... Don't be shy now! I'm sure we'd all enjoy some lap times. heh heh...

Thanks,

Yfoiler

Hey Casey, about the Promini pulley. The website says the pulley is hard anodized alumnium, but I've heard that there are problems with alumnium so do you guys offer a steel pulley like that alta?

The problem with aluminum is if you use it for the center hub, but our center hub is made from steel and it is just the outer pulley that is aluminum. This is more then fine and is a tried and proven method in the industry. If you use an aluminum hub that is where problems occur with expansion but there is NOT problems with using the two together in this application. We have a ton of these out there on cars already with no problems and this application has been done to thousands and thousands of other makes of cars in the past with no problems.

Okay - catching up on a few promises...finally got my hands on the dyno and also the numbers for the cam.

First the dyno - Goto BlueThunder's Latest Dyno Run for the chart.

As for the cam...the part number is 157872 and is $695.95.

Forgot to mention - the dynapack dyno's have a small glitch in the software...if you notice the torque figures are a "tad" high...that is because on the dynapack dyno's are suppose to divide the torque by the ratio which in this case is 5.520. Supposidly dynapack will be updating the software used on their dyno's shortly to fix this glitch.
