Air-Liquid Heat Exchanger ?????
I thought I would share this find. I'm sure there are allot of guys who will be thinking about the possibilities.

Looks similar in concept to...

This a a PWR barrel W2A IC. Ask Jan about it!
But I haven't seen a cut-away of this one. Here's their "Ice Bucket" for drag apps!

I have held the PWR in my hands. What I like about this is how small it is. I could think of few places I could fit this.

I'd like to data-log one...
but I"m concerned on a couple of places....

- it doesn't look like it increases overall diameter to account for the area the fins take up (but you could address this with the couplers)
- the central core diameter without fins is rather large compared to the total diameter. You could have a plug of hot air go down the center.
- The total fin density is low with large areas between them. This means for it to work very well you should have a pretty long core, as the air mixing is much, much less than standard IC designs.

I agree with Matt,
I don't think this is the most efficient style of intercooler. I am sure someone will try it out....

I wonder
if you could bend one on a tubing bender to get it into complex shapes without collapsing the passages? Then I could see using it to aid in one of the cars with lots of plumbing for the air already.... That could be neat....

I think...
you'd do better to do that through another design. Just changing the coolant to something colder but not addressing the basic heat coupling to the air will still mean that you need pretty long cores. And the first part of your "win" in power has to run the A/C. But a version of the Ford Lighning had an A/C boost that was good for 50-75 HP for 10-20 seconds.... But I don't think it ran all the time when floored. I also don't know if it made it to production. Would have been cool!

I was a little bit confused by this diagram at first, since they used a generic engine-type radiator in the picture. I was thinking to myself "How the heck are they going to cool the intake air using the *engine coolant* as the cooling liquid?!?!?"
