after some thought i decided not to get the DSC on my S. i hope that this is not a bad choice. i'm tossing it out there to the mini technos out there. ???????

after driving a full time four wheel drive vehicle for many years i would rather have a limited slip differential. for $500, the cost of the DSC, it seemed a good idea to put this money into improving my driving skills and performance.
it may be too late to change this, i think my car is at the 112 status in the order process.....
appreciate all nays and yays

I love having the DSC. It's a cool, high-tech feature. It's the traction control on the MINIs that really sucks! It's going to get someone killed one of these days.

No DSC, and no regrets! Besides, it would just become something to turn it off everytime I start the car.

I cancelled my DSC earlier today after reading DaveinDenvers first year report. I really don't want 17" wheels and I'm dubious of the DSC so I dropped the sports package and added the xenon lamps and fog lamps. Net saving $610. I've also decided to go with Cooper Flags stripes over the factories so it was an easy call. It's funny. I drop the sports package and now my MCS will be faster. Truth in advertising.

If I decide I want 17" wheels later I can always add aftermarket light weight wheels along with my choice in non-run flat tires and use the 16" for winter driving.

I hated the feel of the DSC during my test drive, didn't like the spoiler or the runflats, so I opted for no sport package, but added the sport seats (on an MC).

I laugh every time I read how people start up the car, then shut off the DSC and am thankful that I don't have it. I want to be in control of the car and have a car that I know how to control. That's why I'm investing in driving school, wheels/tires, springs and a rear swaybar. Let me, not DSC, decide how to get out of a jam.

You made the right choice. I turn it off almost every time I get in the car. It's too aggressive. I've had it put me in danger several times, but never had it save me, so to speak. (The first street I cross each morning has blind curves to the left and right, and losing power when you're trying to get across an intersection is no fun.)

Hope this helps put your mind at ease,

Jeff

We also decided not to spring for the DSC in or '02 Cooper CVT and neither I ordered on the '04 MCS. After reading some very negative comments about the pricey DSC option I decided to skip it and go with the standard ASC+T instead. the 17" S-Lites with runflats in the MCS' sport package are a blatant ripoff IMO. When ordering a new MCS make sure to get it with the standard 16" V-spokes and tires and the standard ASC+T instead. You'll automatically save at least $800 bucks.

DSC has it uses, I turn it off unless its raining, snowing or driving at 100% on unfamiliar twisty roads, just this past week it saved my bacon, during a test/mapping run for the next CT meet, the roads were a bit slick from rain and I overcooked it a bit going into a tight corner, that had some loose sand on the outside, it was not over or understeer but a full sideways slide, a quick left turn of the wheel and immediate flooring of the gas helped, but if the DSC was off, I may not have pulled out of it.

It's up to you and the kind of driving that you do, plus where you live. I'm surrounded by roads that belong more in the English countryside than here, that I like to drive on ***** to the wall, for the ones I'm driving on for the first time, DSC is a bit of a safety net.

X2

I have turned my DSC off from time to time, but I will admit that often, when behind the wheel, I'm not motoring, I'm driving. Sometimes, I am simply not paying as much attention as I should and/or driving in ways that I shouldn't. I think that the DSC has saved my behind a couple of times, but I have noticed a time or two that I wished it wouldn't have kicked in (most notably this Monday, when trying to quickly pass a guy while accelerating off a green light on lower Wacker drive on the southbound on ramp to Lake Shore Drive, hitting a slightly slick, quite bumpy stretch and basically losing power for about 1.5 seconds! )

got it and ritually turn it off every time I get in the car. It especially sucks in the snow when you are trying to get out of being struck.
