Drivetrain ags?
I went away due to high production costs, low sales, and some issues with not sealing properly. From what I've read, the last version (3) is the one to get if you can find one. The main disadvantage is the install. Other CAI's are fairly straightforward but the AGS requires some extra cutting and trimming of factory bits to get it to fit.

Might just mean the this is one of those mod's that does not do anything.
The AGS V.3 was and still is a fantastic system on the MCS.
The problem lies in the extremely expensive production costs thats associated with this system and above average technical skills to install making it a no go for now.
There's a possibillity of CMS making a short run of the product under license from M7. The AGS-R name will soon appear in a new
M7 product........

Hey Herbie Hind
I know Rick (not-so-rednwhitecooper) has an AGS V2 on his car and he has another AGS V2 for sale for less than $50. The one hes selling doesn't have a heat shield with it, but apparantly its not been used that much. You would have to ask him any specific details.
I almost bought it from him a couple weeks ago when I was at his shop doing some maintenence on my car, but I decided not to because we were already tired and hungry and running out of time. It was also the first time I got to look at an AGS in person and saw how much of a bottle neck it freed up.
I even saved the link to this thread a while back to possibly get some AGS accessories:

Finally, this is sort of off topic, but I drove Rick's MCS for a few minutes to see how it ran compared to mine. For those of you that don't know, his Mini's setup is almost contstantly changing, but when I drove it he had 19% + 4% pulley reduction, AGS V2, Mini Mania header, custom exhaust, 400cc injectors, and a few more cool gadgets.
To make a long story short, the 23% pulley reduction and AGS made the throttle response a lot smoother than my MCS with 17% and Alta intake. The s/c whine inside the car was strong, but not quite with the same magnitude as the Alta. Basically, if it wasn't such a PITA to install (take off bumper, drain coolant, take off radiator, maybe take off intercooler, etc) it would already be sold and on my car.

So how does one get on the list for something like this if it's released. I saw one on Ebay a while back for $30, but it wasn't complete. I don't really feel like running around trying to find all the parts to this.
Aluminum will conduct the heat from the SC up to the throttle body a lot faster than a plastic composite, not to mention it lives in an area surrounded by heat producing parts.

You would probably have to talk to M7 on why the V3 was constructed of aluminum, but my guess would be less cost to produce than a hand made plastic one. Also keep in mind, the stock tube was also made out of some sort of plastic composite.
I believe the worst problem associated with the AGS V2 was some sort of fitment issue to the supercharger causing an unnoticable leak to the driver, but causing the CEL light to come on. Rick said it was just because people didn't install them right.
You are exactly right, while driving there shouldn't be an issue with intake air temperature, but once you stop moving the stock MINI engine compartment will produce and hold a tremendous amount of heat that eventually will have an effect on the intake air temp.
just seems like such a good idea . shorten and straighten the intake as compared to stock . wonder if just coming from the cowl would be as good ; i mean you can't really get a ram effect if you're doing a 180 .
Just with me and the underhood heat issue/battle that i'm constantly looking to improve, and the AGS not being a sealed system, makes me ask myself what I would do different.
In the space Peter had to work with, he did an excellent job of creating the AGS setup.
does anyone still sell those little cowl dams ? they sat up about 1 inch . a tube from the cowl to the air box with the front pipe deleted (or better yet blowing on the header. to create a vacuum to the rear ) could be cool .
