Drivetrain New Engine Install
New Engine Install
Hey everyone! I recently had a spun bearing in my engine. I had a new engine installed (new clutch and supercharger also), thanks to my dealership, and just had a few questions.
Since I have a new long block in my car, I am aware that the mileage count is set to zero. With that said, should i take the same break in process as I would with a brand new mini?
Are there other things i should be looking at as far as repairs/maintenance.. like fluids and other parts that arent technically new?
Any advice would be great.. Thanks again!!

Break in the engine and reset your ecu. You can reset your ecu by simply pressing down on the brake pedal while your neg. is disconnected from the batt. The odometer (or any readout on your dash) will fade away untill you reconnect your batt. Resetting the ecu re-calibrates the ecu to the new engine (or any engine mods) and allows for easier exceptance to the change and can even make the engine perform better (even after mods).

Hey Mike! Congratulations. I've followed your experience and think in the end, you did all right. The lessons learned should be burned in your mind for a lifetime.
Stock up on oil filters and oil since they're consumables. Use them often and in good health.
All the advice is spot-on: break it in like a new engine, because it is! Also make it you're business to check for any wetness on the engine each time you pull the dipstick in case any leaks develop. More oil is better than less, so keep it topped up.
Best of luck with your new powerplant!
