Does anyone make a taller shifter?

I was wondering if any one made a shifter kit that increased the height of the shifter with out lengthening it. (so a short shiftkit with a longer handle)

just curious,
Jonathan

There isn't one on the market but somebody did make an extension that fit the Alta SS kit. I believe it was onasled but don't quote me on that. From what I understand, he made a few for people who wanted them but that was a couple years ago. He's busy on his MINI race car build now.

It honestly wouldn't be too hard to make one yourself if you have the right tools. I may actually try one myself if I ever get a SS kit with a screw-on rod.

Here’s one I had made for the Fidanza shifter and UUC ****.

The extension is made of stainless steal which is not the easiest of materials to cut on a lathe without galling.

You mean like this?

Check out Autohaus Schäfer's web site here:

http://cms.mini-clubsport.com/index....d=31&Itemid=79

They are a local dealer here who produces the legendary Schäfer Clubsport Minis.

Does that $450ish include some kind of short shift kit or is it just the extension? I don't speak German...

I think if it was a short throw with that long of a shaft it would have to have a pivot box above the normal pivot point. If it is a short throw ,I want one

Let me help out with a loose translation: "A must for the spirited driver, 390 Euro Dollars ($534 US today) with installation and Value Added Tax (19%) included." Let me know and I'll check on the tax free price without installation and see if they can ship these out to the states.

I'm sure it is a short throw of sorts but certainly not in this league ...

I did a ghetto one on my old alfa... Just welded an extension on. It didn't look the best but for a track car it worked just fine. It's a big improvement having your shifter less then 6" from the steering wheel.

Wow, wasted no time modding that R56 -- the shifter appears to be only one of many mods . . . any other pics?

Thanks...the price might not be so ridiculous without installation. Certainly a sweet mod that directly effects the feel of the car and the ease of driving it at the limit. That would be sweet if they would ship to the U.S. Thanks for the help!

I spoke with the service manager at Autohaus Schäfer today about their long shifter. He said his boss makes them himself for the local Clubsport customers and does not mail order to the US. He said to call back Monday and see if he'd let me purchase a few without installation and tax included.

Please PM me if you are interested (if the price is right). Maybe he'll be more inclined to work with us if I have a wag on how many we'll want.

Thanks!

Received and responded.

It's a cool mod but I'll have to pass myself. This is one addition I couldn't sell to Quicksilvers rightful "owner" (she who must be obeyed). I need an MCS of my own.

I finally hooked up with the fellow who sources extended shifters for Autohaus Schäfer. He said he is willing to sell the shifters at 290 Euros (nearly $400) to me. If I can put together a group buy I will get a break on the 19% value addad tax. In turn I will mail the shifters out via the USPS. There are currently two units on hand with more available if needed. PM me if interested and I will reply next week after Mini United.

I am interested in a longer shifter, though maybe not for hundreds of dollars. Is there any other source for the Schaltwegsverkürzung or something like it?
