Anyone changed shifting cables?

I have an '02 MCS JCW and the shifting cables seem to be kinked, the tranny wouldn't come out of reverse until I completely removed the shifter.

Checking the cable action after removing the lower portion of the air box my wife told me that the cable that moves the tranny shifgting fork shaft in and out was not moving when I puched hard on the cable.

I'm heading to Denver tomorrow so maybe I can pick up the parts at a Mini dealer over there this weekend.

If you've changed the shifter cables let me know what you found out. They don't seem to difficult to change according to the manual.

After the airbox, unbolt the exhaust at the cat and mounts that are at the center of the car, then hang it out of the way. The heat sheilds are all that is left in the way.

Depending on the condition, you may want to replace the shift mechanism at the tranny while you are at it. I found mine to be very loose, although most of the resistance seems to be from the fore aft cable. I am replacing these parts right now while working on other things.
