DSC - it's doing it's own thing!!

Ok, so my car is making reasonable power now. And I am getting happier with it, but this afternoon I noticed that when I was having some "fun", traction control was flashing, and then after a few seconds the light permanently stayed on and traction control was off. it didnt matter how many times I pressed the button for it to come back on, it just didn't.

I stopped the car and turned it off, then tuned the car back on and the light had gone out. and traction was working again. after a minute or so, I started getting excitied with he happy pedal again, and the same thing happened again!! Again, car off, car on and all was working again.... It keeps happening again and again....

Any ideas what the hell is going on?? Has this happened to anyone else?? It has never had this problem before...

Cheers

It's an overboost condition. Considering that you're running a 17%/4% combo...... that is most likely. When you hit over 18 psi, you get this problem. Most of us don't think it's a problem, but there are a few who think it is a problem. Search overboost and you should get more than enough threads....

17%+4%... good lord.

good luck sorting that one out. I would stay shy of 6k rpm until you've got something nailed down.

I think this is a good example of not so well matched upgrades.

For one a 17+4 is spinning your super charger WAY faster then it was ever meant to go.

two you have wired your BPV closed for some reason, but those things open for a reason.

are you running a boost gauge? I would be willing to bet you are pushing like 22-24 psi. I bet you could use a tune and ditch the 4% crank pulley and you would be happier and WAY less likely to explode.

My DSC light is going on just as yours but only at highway speeds.(no juicing the throttle and breaking traction) My DSC module was replaced under warranty just over a year ago when my DSC light came on and stayed on and on and on. I'll let you know what MINI service troubleshoots this down to as I'm only running a 15% reduction pulley.

You guys are all soft!! Mismatched mods?? are you retarded??!! There is nothing missmatched about it. They are all part of a package that has been carefulley chosen by myself and Alta and are all there to make power! Just because you are not prepared to bolt them to your own car, doesnt mean these mods are mismatched....

The valve is wired shut ATM as the spring is not strong enough to hold the valve shut at boost pressures above 15psi - I am removing it and having it modified here in Aus to suit my application. I have aftermarket management, 380cc JCW injectors, and the best cooler money can buy (Alta v2.0). Intake temps are at acceptable levels. AFR's are at perfect levels..... I dont see what you are scared about?? These engines have forged pistons in them standard! The highest boost pressure I have seen as yet is 20psi - I assume it is relatively low due to the more unrestrictive JCW head and the rest of the mods I have made to achieve maximin flow.
At the end of the day, I am in this to build a lightning quick streetcar - something to keep up with all my friends with import turbos. There is nothing like the look on the face of a modified WRX or Skyline dirver when they are having their *** handed to them by a mini. I am happy to be the one pushing the boundaires for the satisfaction of these moments!!

also a modded '04 sti that I race aganst in SM for SCCA autocross that will destroy you straight line. get back to me if you get to the 29464 area.

I didnt say "my car can beat a fully modified highly tuned factory backed HKS street driven racecar". Making comments like that make you look like a ****wit. There are always going to be faster cars than my mini and I never said otherwise.

But bud, seriously, if yours cant chop a WRX with intake/exhaust mods (not a "modded STi built for the track").... SUX TO BE YOU!!!!

Did I EVER say a factory backed hks racecar???? No. I didnt. its just a run of the mill hks upgraded skyline, that you should Kill (right) ((you said it not me.)). and the sti is just a sti with some mods for autocross. these are the cars that you "built" yours to take out, so........................

btw: I have no problem with stock sti's, evo's or wrx's, but you said an upgraded version. and i think they will kill you, and I have money on them.

Mate I'm not into flaming. This has all been overblown now..... I'm over it and you've missed the point. My point was that my Mini is comparitively quick. And I love it. And I am happy to push the boundaries.

No-one needs to flame me for trying to make power.

And at the end of the day, you yourself are running a 19% pulley, thats only 2% behind me. And at 19% YOUR supercharger is running way more than is should be too.....

Anywho, good luck with your car (that looks sweet) and thankyou for your input, my original question has been answered (and now fixed). Time for me to go hunt some HKS skylines (will leh be coming to Australia anytime soon?? )

Win or lose, at least I'll try - and have fun doing it!
