Funny too, I don't remember any reason to "Torque" studs. You hand tighten them with an allen wrench and torque the BOLTS. Maybe that's where all that extra power is coming from .

Hey, I'm from Jersey.
None of you who posted remarks about me would like it if what you did got got quoted improperly. I simply tried to put it into context. Nothing more.

How about; "ARP cylinder head stud kit?"

Helix quoted 6 hours of labor (at $75/hour). They also carry El's head.

Fricken funny!

I've seen quote from $500 to well over $1000 for the swap, from all sorts of shops. That's what it costs! For me, the first time, I had about 10-15 hours in the job, but I went really, really slow.

Now for the off-topic stuff that makes me laugh. Don may be rough around the edges of his posts, but Els (now all deleted) make Don's posts seem like a Dr Phil lovefest! If one were to take the tone of posts as a metric for quality of parts, then Els stuff would suck big time! But I find it hillareous that Els stuff is now held as the gold standard, and others are blasted for doing just what got El banned in the first place. I guess I've been here too long........

The stock Mini bolts are "deform to torque", the Arp kit isn't, I'm pretty sure, and a re-tourqe is probably a good idea.

To add some more real data here, make sure the quoted price includes the hardware (a bit over $100 for the head gasket kit, tons of crap you don't need in it as well) incuding the head bolts, so that you're pricing is apples to apples.

Also, there will be regional differences for install pricing. Here in the SF Bay Area, good performance shops aren't cheap, and >$100/hr prices for the best labor is the norm. Two reputable Mini/BMW shops in the area quoted a bit over a grand for the work using Mini head bolts and the Mini gasket kit. (Labor was about $800 or so).

I wasn't around then, so I never got to see any of his posts.

I said it before, I paid 450 labor (+ the gasket for ~$60 and a stud kit for ~$120) and it was done in about 4.5 hours. The work was top notch, and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else.

Using a geographical region as an excuse for being rude is just silly.

Building off of that, it seems there is a consensus on NAM that you could get far more for your money with an aftermarket head than the JCW one. Any validity to that? Anyone want to share some facts, results, experiences about aftermarket vs JCW heads? I'm considering it myself and I'd be curious to know what others have found out.

This board always needs someones leg to hump and in 07 its DMH. At the Dragon, I got a chance to ride in Don's car and it ran really STRONG while being SMOOTH (one happy sounding engine w/ the LDG tune).

How he is able to build such a car while having NAMers humping his leg is beyond me.

I can post the dyno sheets of my MINI...or others with a 15% pulley w/ stock head cs. those of the JCW head which showed less power....on a Mustang dyno. The only reason I would buy a JCW head is for the core to send in for a great aftermarket head. I wouldn't pay more then $400 for the JCW head.

Cometic has a gasket that's a better quality one. Part # C4308-027 lists at $86.50 Coat it with a Copper Hi-Temp Gasket Sealant Spray before installing.

I sure wish people would stop calling Jan's performance head the "Jesus head."

That name doesn't represent anything Jan intended it to as I understand.

"Mohammed Head" would be fine to me.

Thanks to you both, I'll have a look at them. Gnatster, could you provide a link? Thanks.
