Problems installing Mini Mania pulley HELP

I am in the middle of my install with a Mini Mania 3 piece pulley and the directions state to maintain a gap between the hub and the s/c body of .185" with the body of the pully fully seated against the s/c. I cannot keep this gap no mater what when I tighted down the 4 bolts. It drags the body of the pulley to a non-compliant gap. The best I can do is a gap around .160". are the directions for this pulley wrong. is this possible. Any help would be appreciated tonight. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem I think, if I understand correctly. I read somewhere to heat the pulley with the oven or torch, this helps the pulley slide on all the way, what I did was take the pully apart and heat the back part with a torch very little, and then slide it on and then the front part and then reinstall the screws and tighten them up, it alined perfect for me. My hard part was reinstalling the new belt, I didn't have the tension tool and it was really hard for me to get it on, but I finally got it. The extra power was worth the effort!!

Blake,

Did you obtain the .185" gap between the hub and the s/c body? I can get everything on and seat the hub to the s/c, but when I start tightening it down, it drags the hub to close to the s/c and the gap is out of spec.

When I first tried to install it all put together it would not go on far enough, the belt was way out of alinement. So then I remembered to heat it up and so I took it apart and heated just the back part just alittle because that was the part that seemed to be too tight, then it slid on great, but I played with it for a few minutes and it cooled and well then it was too tight again and I couldn't get it in the right place so I had to reheat, so I did and then slid it on and added the front part and the screws, then thighted, it never moved around as I tightened, I was more concerned with the alinement of the belt than the exact measurement, mine alined perfectly and works great.
It lookes like the pulley is back fairly far toward the SC but not touching anything, and the belt was alined, so I thought that was good enough!

I never measured mine, I just eyeballed the alinement. Mine seems to be alined fine, I do not know what else to say, I think if the alinement is good go for it, afterall you can not reinstall the stock one again! We are talking about .02 of an inch, maybe yours will not go on any farther, maybe it is close enough, how does the alinement look as you look at the other pulleys from the top and bottom?
I am not a mechanic but I tinker with my own.

i just had the MM pulley installed. i don't know if my buddy who did the install read the directions or not. he is a MINI tech. i just completed a DE w/ PCA at Moroso this past weekend w/ no belt issues. i don't know if this informations helps....the car ran hard and flawlessly. my gearing/tire size didn't match the track well and i was constantly bouncing off the rev limiter. no problems here......i'll report back after talking w/ the installer...

Well I finished the install this weekend. I left it at a gap of .160" from the front of the supercharger. I am also using the belt that mini mania sells and it looks like everything is lined up and ok. I did the install in chicago with a buddy and had a 90 mile drive ahead of me to prove the success of the install. I beat on it up to 6500 rpm a couple of times before I left for home and there was alot of boost there that wasnt before. I arrived safely at home after the pulley, rear sway bar and NGK colder plug install. checked everything when I got home and it looks good. I retorqued the plugs to 20 ft/lbs. when I got home. Thanks to everyone for their assistance in the mods.
