So what I'm mbasicaly saying is that it's not a hellova lot faster even if we go with these number claims of 6.3 seconds and certainly not at all faster if we go with the 6.7 claim made by the official site.

We can argue this all day about what's the difference of the speed and power. The piont I was trying to make was in reference to the general thought that the 07 is some kind of a monster when compared to the r53 where in fact it's not that much of a difference in the speed catagory. .3 or .6 seconds faster does not institute a grand prize for those claming that it's SO much faster.

Back to the topic.

rusty- The MSD coil package produces a multi spark functions as Ive been told in order to burn the fuel faster in creating faster sparks. I'm not a mechanic by any means but my general logical conclusion would indicate that it should somehow influence the overall power if not the trq output of the car. Am I perhaps being too off base by this analogy here?
The stock ignition system has been used in 400+ HP applications, you're not overtaxing it running 230 to the wheels . It's a gimmick to make more money. That's it. The ONLY time it would help you make power is if your car started misfiring in the higher RPM range because the stock system couldn't keep up.

Its called marketing 101

In the 1960s, most muscle cars were touted with HP ratings less than they actually were, simply to make it easier for "kids" to not get hit with high insurance rates.

I have no idea why MINI claims 6.7 but the magazines are consistent with their 6.2/6.3 times. Car makers market and advertise numbers for reasons far different than auto journalists. The auto journalists have been doing its since the 1950s ... keeping the car makers honest. Just think about it ... If a company claimed 6.7 and your car ran 7.2 ... you may be upset ... but let a major car magazine run 6.6 and you know you dont have to test the car itself.

Its pretty common knowledge that some car magazines come close to or are abusing the cars (no need to point names) while others test them more like normal people drive them. Its easy to see which do what by just looking at which magazines consistently run quicker numbers ...

So car makers numbers do mean squat because they are going to be conservative. If their QC is not good, and MINI is not exactly know for putting out the best QC, then they have to cover themselves ...

Not true for auto journalists. If they can run 6.2 and you can't ... well maybe you dont want to dump your clutch at 6K but they dont care.

I am no longer sure what the disagreement is and have not driven a R56, but I have seen its torque curve and if it is a half second quicker than a R53, and it does have more low end torque, its going to feel much faster.

You accelerate along the torque curve ... HP is not the issue. If the R56 got a lot of torque down low, its going to pull hard to 60. High end may be another story.

I drove the car. It's feels a lot faster. Check out what I said in my post. Official sites can kiss my butt dyno; the r56 is faster.

First of all i love when people try to defend their beliefs to the point of getting embarrassingly difficult to even watch unfold/read... but back to the .6 seconds faster...that is quite a bit faster in my book...try thinking of that in terms of racing around a track...after 5 laps you are 3 seconds back...10 laps and you are 6...and so on... and people mention how much faster the car feels..to me that's important as well... we all want a car that feels fast and is "fun" to drive..and not just a car that goes fast...but keeps wishing for more - i.e. low end
Just enjoy the (your) ride!
