Track Oil Temps...
Track Oil Temps...
What are you guys seeing? At LRP I saw 270-280 in 50 degree weather. Popular opinion is that this is too hot. Some suggestions have been - thicker oil, racing oil, or get an oil cooler. Nobody can difinitively say if these temps result in engine damage. I'm on my way back up to LRP tonight - the coolant system was bled, and I've had water wetter in there since it got warmer. Oh yea, towards the end of an HPDE day, it will spit some coolant out of the overflow cap (not a lot). I had the coolant flushed in Jan.
Thanks for any and all advice/experiences you might have with this!

If you track your car you ought to be using a racing oil for numerous reasons. VR1 is an example that is easy to find. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...asp?product=50
If you are using a high quality tier one synthetic oil I would say that those temps are just a bit too high, but not by much.
Going to a race oil is a good option if you change it back soon after the track day is over. Don't want to run it long term in the car. Or go with a good quality oil cooler with a thermostat.
