Need tips to cure motion sickness!
Need tips to cure motion sickness!
I just completed my first drivers school at Reno Fernley Raceway (3 mile config, 23 turns!) and had a great time...except for vomiting after every session from being car sick (even though I was driving). It was kinda like being on a roller-coaster for too long. I love being on the track, but feeling sick all day wasn't that great.
Any tips to help cure this? Medication? Home remedies? I now have my competition license and I don't want to have to cancel all my track days!
Thanks!
Jim

Am curious, you say you just had your first drivers school, yet you have a competition License????
If indeed this was your first drivers school you may be driving eyes down, ie looking at cones, etc, you should be taught to drive eyes up meaning you will be looking up ahead two or three points.....where you will be, not where you are.
This may help.
I have no motion sickness while driving, but when riding with an instructor can only do about four laps before nauseous,...................
i f that doesn
't work, try putting a brown paper grocery sack across your chest /stomach area inside your shirt, next to your skin..........its supposed to do wonders, honest.

Or you could just take a one hour ride on an F-16 Fighter jet. Cured me of motion sickness forever.
Seriously... I never heard of someone getting motion sickness in the driver's seat. Sorry you have such a malady !
If you have no luck with Dramamine, the most common OTC med, try Bonine. If that doesn't help, you should talk to your doctor about a prescription med.

belosic, you can get a patch to put on your neck that will slowly emit anti-motion sickness medicine and not make you drowsy or impair your operation of machinery (i.e. cars). I saw several people using them at the Dragon in May. Ask your doctor about it. Good luck!
Yep, I qualified for a competition license because of my lap times and previous track experiance (with street bikes). Granted, I can only compete in Novice class (SCCA time trials) but that is perfect for me.
Thanks for the tips, keep 'em coming!
So far I'll be the guy chewing ginger root with a paper bag under my shirt!

Saltine crackers have been known to work also, but if you are really prone to motion sickness, the patch might be the best bet.
Usually the passenger gets sick. The driver though? That's a new one for me.

"sea bands" or queeze - away bands
my wife uses these on the water to fairly good success. acupressure thing. doesn't work for everyone, but for $6, you should give it a try. better than medicating yourself on the track, if it works

New Mini Owner here... While driving at the Dragon last month, I felt the same queezy feeling - yeah! even though *I* was driving & I've been to the dragon (on my motorcycle 4 times before?!) - I was suprised...
I've heard ginger works very well & plan on picking some up before MOTD 2007 :-D

According to Mythbusters, try the ginger pills you can get at a vitamin store. They say it works the best, better than Dramamine and without the drowsiness!!! I'm sure the episode is on YouTube somewhere.
And rehydrate with Some Dr. Reeds Ginger Brew (or cherry ginger brew).

I remember the Mythbusters episode, the ginger sounds like it may be the winner. Wouldn't hurt to try a few things at once though, I'm curious to try the paper bag idea. At least I'll have a bag handt if it doesn't work!
For those driving and getting motion sickness I have no help to offer. I hope the suggestions given will work for you.
For passengers, watch the road as carefully as if you were driving. Don't wait until you feel ill to do this. Do it from the start, especially on roads like the Dragon. I was always plagued by motion sickness as a passenger until I began instructing. I realized that when I look ahead as much as I do when in the driver's seat I have no problem. It cured me. The proof was a recent, all day Lotus run through the TN/NC mountains. I had to be a passenger all day.
I had no problem at all. We all joked about getting me one of those toy steering wheels for the passenger side of the car so I could drive too.
