What brake pads will you be using?

At least LRP is not as heavy on the brakes as Monticello.

I have plenty of pad left for this session, and they seemed to do fine at WGI. Next set will be a bit more track-oriented, maybe the EBC Reds.

I think you may be underestimating your track needs for brake pads

Word of advice......

Get more pad than you think will be "ok". I run full race pads (Hawk DTC) and have not had a single brake issue since I started using them over two years ago. GKP's Carbotech pad issue at T-Bolt makes me wonder about that pad brand..

If I didn't have a caliper/rotor fitment issue my pads would not wear as fast as they do now. (I bevel the pads on the L/F)

GKP underestimated his brake pad needs and used an Autox pad, the AX8, which is good to 800-900 degrees F for the track. That is why his brakes caught fire.

The full race track pads are good to 1500 degrees or more. Many times brake temperatures can reach 1000-1200 degrees.

Crap, I'm not going to have time to get full-up track pads and break them in before the 14th.

Ah.....I was not aware that they were an autox pad. Yeah - that will do it!

Just be real careful and check those brakes often. Do not take too many chances going too deep.

At least LRP only has one hard braking zone right at big bend, the other brake zones uses much less brake. Hopefully you have some cool weather. GKP will be there, so you can talk with him about brakes.

I put on the XP10s for LRP and it was like having a different car. The first time I hit the brakes at the end of the straight, I thought I was going to go through the windshield! Amazing stopping power.

Glad the brakes are working well finally. I think the modulation is really good with the ct XP0s.

I had a blast at LRP with VV and gkp. My first Intermediate run on my own was a bit frustrating - got passed by just about everyone - but everything came together on the last session once I worked out the line on Big Bend. Getting that ironed out really sets up the rest of the track.

The highlight was passing the Murcielago twice in the same run. Granted, it still had its temp tags and the owner was babying it, but I can now honestly say I've lap'd a Lamborghini. There was a Ferrari F430 in the same run group, but he definitely wasn't babying it. Maybe next time

My instructor said I'm ready for Intermediate 2, but he wants me to have one more day at Intermediate 1 to learn how not to follow the guy in front of me in traffic.

The left hand turn is one key to LRP because of the short straight. The other is the downhill on to the longer straight. Remember a turn is a extension of a straight.

Glad you has fun.

LOVED that downhill right-hander into the straight. The trick is to lay off the brakes before the turn-in. Probably my favorite part of the course.

That is the spot I have seen the most problems. VV and I was there a couple of years ago in the rain and saw a Mustang hook over into the inside barriers.

A touch of the brakes as well a breathe can be used to stablize the car.

That's also the turn where I did a 180 and ended up a couple of feet from the left tire wall. There's a fine line between exhilarating and puckering.

Lots of fast cars in my group; my left hand spent a lot of time pointing them by, especially during the first session in the morning. Grip improved on the R comps as the track warmed up during the afternoon. Overall, a good day on the track with a couple of very promising MINI trackheads. Last track day of the season coming up in 10 days.

It was interesting watching the Instructor group slipping and sliding on the first morning run; made me happy my group didn't get on the track until 10:30.

I thought this was going to be it for the season, but I think I'll do one more track day locally, at Summit Point, on Nov. 6th.

Have fun at Summit Point! Let us know how your car feels with the track pads on board.

Should be a lot of fun. My instructor at LRP took my car out for a couple of laps (with me in it) and it became clear that the brakes were a limiting factor. Now that I have a working floor jack and some time to put the pads on, I should be quicker.

Summit point is a fantastic track. I was there 6 years ago and had a lot of fun. My Mazda Miata buddies always go there. Which track are you running?

When you say there is not enough brakes, are you talking about consistency or stopping power?

Both, but mostly stopping power.

Oh, and we're running Shenandoah

Racing brake pads generally only help marginally for greater stopping power, it is more about high heat consistency. Better tires can help more for improved stopping.

shenandoah is fantastic.
