If I remember correctly....you'll get 4 - 30 minute sessions as well as being able to ride with your instructor for a session. Thing to remember at WG is to just pit when you find yourself in a train which always happens there at the novice school. Come in and wait about a minute or so and then go back out. Stop about 2/3 of the way down pit road and you'll be able to see the cars come off T11 at which point you take off....

4 x 30 is pretty good. I got an OT recommendation from Ian. Not sure it it holds any sway. If not, I will just run in Novice.

I think I remember Eddie has been to wgi for a two day SCDA event last year. And he is really not a "real" novice.

Ya, 2 days at wgi...really good instructor...Thought I could move to intermediate but needed more confidence. Got that with 2 more days at Monticello and wore my brakes out I'm not much of a novice any more but can deal with most anything.

If you'd really like to jump into OT than I strongly suggest you contact them beforehand. I'm pretty sure they don't do OT sign offs at the novice school but of course I may be wrong. LOVE to run with you in OT if possible....

I really think you'll get frustrated running in the novice group, I did when I went back for the second time (for the fun of it). I wanted to start my season up there so I signed up with them and I couldn't even get signed off for solo, and I was already an Intr student with them!

They wrote to me to say they do OT signoff anytime. More info in the SCDA schedule thread so I do not want to repeat it here.

I miss the track. Have to get things settled around the homestead and find a track toy that is not my daily driver.

Quick Update since the original post a while back:

My Mini just made it to 34 track days although recently I have been running more open track which can probably count as two normal track days.

Other than 2 driver side CV joints and a boost issue, it seems to be going relatively strong. I stopped busting CVs when I got rid of those awful Eibach coils and put in AST 5100s. Boost issue seemed to be caused by the aftermarket cone filter dislodging from the intake tube and causing some disrution of the air flow. Went back to original paper cone and everything seemed OK. The aftermarket cone filters do not fit the JCW Stage 1 intake well.

Also completed the BBK to the TCE plus 3 with 13"x0.92" rotors running Carbo XP10s. I think I am going to go the XP12s next because I like the modulation better. I do not seem to have much problems with heat (heat paint from Eddie is red rust color) except for minute cracks in the rotors.

Looking to put on 3 more track days in July with SCDA (another thread). Need some new shoes and am thinking of getting the Nitto NT01 in 225/45 17, moving up in size a little from 215.

My last event was the first with XP10s with heat paint. I don't recall my previous sets having any. I burned it off in the first session at Homestead, but I never had fade issues and the rotors on my R56 fronts (I have an R53) look fine. Should I worry?

You have an R53 with R56 MCS brakes?

What level do you run at? Advanced, intermediate?

They are generally pretty good. They take a decent amount of track abuse. I never had problems with the R56 front brakes especially with CT XP12s. Just make sure you check for stress cracks from heat. You will have to replace the rotors when the start to crack to the edge.

The R56 S brakes (I assume that is what you) are really good with XP 10 pads. These seem to like the plain flat rotors the best. The only issue that I had was at Motitcello. That track is really hard on brakes. I started a day with half the pad. All worked fine the whole day, no fade. However, when I went to change the wheels to the streets, I saw that the piston side pad backing plate had weakened with heat and had bent around the piston. The center had worn almost to the backing plate; the edges still looked like there was pad left. Now, I will admit to hard, late, braking which was probably more intense than most people out there. So I was probably a bit hard on them. I also had the dust shield on, which trapped heat in around the piston and didn't help the situation.

Moral of the story, bring an extra set of pads and check the pad wear from the top of the caliper. Viewing from the sides, which is easier to see, won't show the true wear if this happens. If you check the pads this way you will be fine. Have fun.

As for temperatures, I seem to be running a peak of 1100 - 1300 deg, well under the limit for the XP10.

Cannot believe that we are almost 1/2 over for the track season and I only have three track days so far. How many have you guys done this year so far?

This year is shaping up to be much fewer than last year. Last Friday at Lime Rock was only my second of the season!

None yet - WGI next week will be the first outing this year. I'm planning a few runs at Summit Point and VIR next month, then Lime Rock in the Fall.

Let's see...
4 laps at LRP (a quarter day)
2 days with Trackmasters at WGI ...
1 extra long day with Patroons at WGI...3 hrs must count for something (that must count as a day and a half)...
1 open track day at LRP
4-3/4 days and I still have tires left...

now what is coming up? I still have tires to wear out

Patroon has two days at LRP; August 19th and 20th, a Friday and Saturday, with open track on Saturday from 9-1 for signed off drivers.

Looks like most of us are not getting too many track days this year.

We must see what we can do to change that.

12 Track Weekends this year. Well actually 13 since I did a BMW event as well. You guys really need to move to Texas.

Tempting. Especially when you can run all year round.

More days are possible up in the NE except work gets in the way. Look at Porsche Bob. I will see him tomorrow but he told me he already has 25 track days a couple of weeks ago.
