mozzerella decided to leave....

due to a nasty exchange on another thread, mozzerella has decided to leave this forum. to the mods: his thread here has much value. it documented his track experience from total novice to confident solo driver. this thread addressed many issues/questions faced by all MINI owners who want to track their cars. can this thread be recovered, but locked? i don't know the forum rules, but i hate to see good information disappear into neverland. if not, i'm sure that some other MINI pilot will ask the same questions and travel down the same path....

Well that's a damn shame. I always enjoyed reading his posts about tracking his MINI. This old fart has learned a bit too. Here's hoping he changes his mind about leaving.

I would guess he won't be back soon, unless Marky changes his ways real soon.

I missed the thread. It's too bad that what was said made a long time member leave. Who is this Marky anyway?

Mozzerella, why let one person drive you away from NAM? There are still hundreds of great folks here.

Mark is Mark Ferguson. As in the guy who owns NAM. And Mozzerella did not leave because of one person, but because of group of people combined with the existing attitude on this site.

Are we not allowed to have an opinion on NAM? Must be a rule change I missed.

Not everyone likes the same thing. Some may think my MINI is something an old fart would drive. Wait, it is. That's OK with me & it should be OK with anyone. People like different things.

I don't have a clue what was said in that post so I'm guessing I'll sit back & wait to be told what's up, or not.

That would be our devious leader M. Ferguson.

Check out www.mininuts.com for more info and a real eye-opener on NAM.

Some of the comments directed at MSFITOY and Onasled were vulgar to say the least. Enough said on my part.

Have you read the thread about you on their web page. It's quite dis-tasteful...I don't know much about Mozzarella, but whenever he would come into the threads, he would bash and slander anything and everything. I know he's not the only one, but it gets quite tiring when you're trying to find useful information and someone smears mud through what you're reading. I praise the moderators for trying to keep things clean. It's like our law enforcement...why do they get such a bad rap? People speed and they're pulled over, and yet they get so pissed because they were pulled over and they try to play not guilty Cops are pigs, blah, blah, blah... There were rules set forth by NAM, and those that can't follow them should own up to their consequences...

And what these "mininuts" (maybe just a few and only a few) have written over on their website makes them look very immature and childish I realize we all can't get along, but if you don't want to read about someone, then don't. You don't always have to butt in thinking your **** doesn't stink.

My $.02

Not true. He only disparaged so-called tweaks that had no real engineering or documentation of performance behind them. He was abrupt, but I think he was getting tired of all the gushing over products with questionable performance claims.

Frankly, I said the same thing, only I said it more politely in a thread I called "How I removed lots of mods and made lots more power…" https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=108749

I know him personally, and it's another one of those deals when you meet people, you're amazed at how level-headed and nice they are.

Maybe, seeing as how I've never met him. All I know is from what I've read... I think some of the "fanboy" comments are getting old, too... People will do repeat business with businesses that they trust, and like. I for one, like Randy Webb. Even though there were those posts ages ago about how he was doing people wrong or was having issues, I stuck it through with him, and still would today. There will be people that want to continue to do business with M7 even though some people have had issues...

I checked out their website. All I can say is . That is what happens when there are no rules to live by. Wouldn't want my kids to see it, period! This is why NAM is good, don't have to turn off the computer when the kids walk in .

Mozzerella decided to leave on his own...largely because of his feelings that we are letting "BS" about products and claims go unchecked. If that is the reason he left I can understand because NAM was never intended to act as a Consumer Report service to the community. It was, however, intended to be a platform to share information between people, for vendors to have a place to promote their products, etc. In other words...an online community where each of us can read everything, come to our own conclusions, and spend our dollars accordingly. All that I have always asked is that people abide by the site guidelines...in other words be polite to each other. That said there are some people here on the site that derive a great deal of pleasure in constantly stirring the pot, not for the sake of actually educating members on the underlying reasons of their objections, but to skirt the site guidelines while attempting to be "helpful". The result of this has been a pattern of behavior that makes the whole MINI community look bad, drives away new owners and enthusiasts, and gives the impression that the site is composed of a bunch of angry, bitter people. I know this is not an accurate characterization of the whole community. Given this I'm taking steps to get the tone on the site back to being helpful and using common courtesy on a daily basis.

On a separate note...why is this thread in Drivers School?

Mark

I believe because he had posts in here about his driving adventures, and somebody would like his posts ressurected (can even be locked), because they had useful information... Read it somewhere previously.

Well a certain unnamed old fart asked a question of what happened to mozzerella & here we are.

I also agree that mozzerella's posts on driving school are valuable & should be available for others to read.

Mark thanks for explaining your view of things.

Yes, please bring back the driver's school thread--I've been using that as a template for myself, and its been most helpful. Its borderline stickiable, wether its locked or not.
