Heel and Toe mods...

I've been staring the the Mini's brake and gas pedals casually for about year wondering how to modify these to help heel and toe shifting. A spacer atop the gas pedal seems to be the easiest way to bring the gas pedal up to the point where the brake should be at threshold braking.

Any ideas?

I guess I have big feet, but I can do ok with my R50, but I did put a wider gas pedal on it from Moss MINI. I test drove a R56 and couldn't do it at all, they moved the brake pedal farther away.

Hmmm, I think the pedals work just fine for heel-toeing. I wear size 10 shoes, (not overly large). So, can you get wider footwear to help?

I'm a 14EEEE so I easily do a left side/right side of the right foot version of heel-toe. If you do a search there are some threads on mods specifically for this floating around somewhere on NAM.

I think the biggest issue is the height (or depth) of the throttle pedal. Maybe you could cut a few pieces of 1/4" plywood and tape them to the throttle to see what height would be right for you. Trial and error would let you know how thick the spacer needs to be.

Heel and toeing in the MINI is fairly easy once you get used to it. The harder you brake the easier it is to do it. I am 6' with size 11 narrow shoes and it has become second nature to me now.

I'm a svelte 165lbs with a 8 1/2-9 shoe size...no reflection on other body part dimensions, however...

I'd have to dig to find the link, but I recall seeing an aluminum (und schteel!) plate that attaches to the gas pedal and curves out at the bottom toward the brake pedal to give you a wider target for your heel. It's for those attending the "brake with toes, gas with heel" school, as opposed to those from the freakishly large foot club (such as myself) who H&T with all toes.

I intend to buy that plate eventually. I've got the latter method down fairly well on the street, but when the brakes start to fade and the pedal sinks below the throttle, you've lost the ability to blip the throttle.

Remember that our gas pedel hidges at the bottom, not the top like most other cars.

Ditto, its much easier to heel/toe at HPDE's since you're using your brakes much harder, basically puts the gas pedal almost even with the brake. Driving in traffic I have to be more deliberate about it, but my 10.5 foot can get the job done.

This is what i use. click the link then go to BMW then MINI. It's a set of 4 pedals with a kickout on the gas pedal to aid in heel and toe. I've been using it for 3 years now.

I find it hard to believe that this would actually help much. Our cars gas pedal hinges at the bottom, so having a wider section at the bottom doesn't appear to help out at all.

I'm very aware of how the gas pedal is hinged at the bottom. what this gas pedal does is bring it closer to brake pedal. When you have less than 100 feet to brake from 130mph to 50mph you will appreciate the proximity. If you are not tracking your car regularly don't bother. You'll just end up revving the engine when you brake.

Smoothness renders speed!

7 track days so far this year with another at VIR next Wednesday.

Nice product, but the best advice is to just go out and practice.
