BMWCCA Watkins Glen club racing school on the schedule!
I am posting this message because folks here expressed an interest in the Club Racing school in the northeast. We have settled on the Watkins Glen school, hosted by the Boston chapter, which will be held on Weds & Thurs, Sept 27 & 28. The following three days will be a club race at the Glen, hosted by the Genessee Valley Chapter on Fri-Sun Sept 29-Oct 1.

Scott and Fran Hughes, with Club Racing's support, have graciously offered the possibility of fast-track rookie licensing for mid-week CR Racing School graduates. Competition-ready graduates in possession of fully-approved and teched BMWCCA CR-series cars will be eligible for that weekend’s race.

To participate in the club racing school, you need to have a drivers ed car and a helmet - you do not need a club racing car. Both the Mini Cooper and Cooper S are eligible for BMW CCA Club Racing in varous classes.

Please let me know if you or anyone you know are interested in this race school - it is a unique opportunity to get your club racing license on Thursday and race on the weekend!

Subject: [CR] Watkins Glen race on the schedule!

[ The following is a copy of an email I just sent to all club racers ]

We are pleased to announce that the Genesee Valley Chapter will be hosting a race at Watkins Glen on the weekend of September 30th. The event will include the inaugural Bavarian Specialties 125 (k) enduro, and there will be plenty of track time with a full schedule on Saturday and Sunday plus an optional practice day on Friday. In addition to the two points races (a sprint and a 1.5x points enduro), we have the possibility of running a fun race on Sunday morning, potentially using the NASCAR/Rolex short course for some variability and comparability (your time vs.
Daryl’s). Those that would like to have even more practice can enroll in the Boston Chapter’s Driving School/CR Racing School* which will be held at the Glen on Wed. & Thur. of that week (Sept. 27,28).

Given the incremental expense associated with running competition events at the Glen this year, GVC was reluctant to raise the entrance fees substantially however, primary event sponsor Diffsonline as well as our enduro sponsor, Bavarian Specialties have stepped up to the plate so we are able to keep registration fees consistent with last year’s levels ($425 before Sept 1, $475 after). The Friday practice session will run from 8:30 to 4:30 and will cost $125.

There are no competing CCA races that weekend and no NA regional races for four weeks on either side of the event. However, the SA premier event @ Road Atlanta and the Grand Am 12 hrs of VIR are on the following weekend, so in deference to our long-haul participants we have scheduled an early Sunday (1:00 PM enduro) to get those racers on the road as soon as possible. Further, the prize raffle will be held at some time prior to the enduro to facilitate an early departure on Sunday.

In addition to racing, the good people of Targa Newfoundland will be hosting a dinner at the track on Saturday night, and will again be raffling off a $4,500 CAD entrance fee to next fall’s Premier Canadian on-road rally. Prior raffle winners Dave McIntyre, Ross Karlin, Bruce Smith and Alex Brosseau have all gone on to successfully compete in this clinically addictive rally. For the involuntary racing audience or “decision makers”, the Finger Lake region is at its seasonal best with fall foliage at or near peak and ah, exciting events like the Wine Country Dog Show in full gear.

In addition to the event sponsors, we would like to thank The Tire Rack, HMS Motorsports, VAC Motorsports and Grass Roots Motorsports for making the race possible and for their generous support of the BMWCCA Club Racing Series.

Hope to see you there,
Vince Leo, GVC Chapter President m332is@yahoo.com Scott Smith, NA CRAC petromodel@hotmail.com David McIntyre, BMW CCA Club Racing Chairman
