Merry Xmas everyone!

hope your year is filled with car related stuff......and family too I guess. 😬

S-Driver - Hey, good to hear from you...
Do you know which driver you will be working with?

Well, we also have gotten some Christmas presents from some of our favorite track day organizers. This one is from BMWCCA GVC and I quote from the email I just received.;

“Our dates at the Glen are now under contract. As usual, we’re offering three weekend (3-day) schools (April 26-28, June 7-9, September 27-29) open to drivers at all skill levels, as well as our exciting 2-day midweek HPDE for advanced drivers on Wed.-Thurs. August 7-8. For instructors and instructor wannabes, our annual Instructor Seminar is scheduled at the Burgundy Basin in Rochester on Saturday, April 6.

These are very worth while events and I always learn a lot from having one of their instructors in my car for a while.

Eddie07S 12-25-2018 02:19 PM

And from BMWCCA Patroons, we expect to have the following 2019 events:

Patroon’s dates for 2019 when firmed up, but, tentative dates are:
May 17 Lime Rock, August 23-24th Lime Rock, Palmer Sept 13-15th.

Again, another great group to head out onto the track with.

And of course there are the SCDA 2019 dates:

Looking forward to watching this new race season. Hope things go well for your team.

Hey VV......this summer I’m finally going to throw out all my left over R53 parts I still have. No need to continually hold on to them...

so - if you want a carpet set for your S or reg Cooper, let me know. June is dumpster month here at the condo complex.

Let me know..

veggivet 01-18-2019 05:31 AM

Thanks for the offer, S-Driver, but I'm looking to clear out my garage too! BTW, no longer have the Justa; sold it a few years back.

Hey, just thought I would say that I got great service from Todd at TCE Performance Products. He millled a second set of rotor hats for my oversized Wilwoods. Had them done in a day, for a couple of day turn around. Go him.

On that note, I had them done to be ready for the up coming track season. I’m not trusting April weather, but I am definitely planning on May for my first day out. May 17th with Patroons chapter of BMWCCA. These are people I know and I have gotten some really great instruction from them, that worked really well for the MINI on that track. Looking forward to getting out. Anyone else interested?

I've been ordering from Todd since you first pointed me in his direction a few years ago. But why would they need to mill hats? Aren't the hats standard Wilwood parts? As for track days, I'm not a Patroons member any longer so I would need to rejoin to do one of their days. I just finished up some work on the MINI and will check out the SCDA schedule this week.

Eddie07S 03-17-2019 10:29 AM

I have Todd’s 1” thick rotor kit and that takes a custom rotor hat to accommodate the thicker rotor. To save some money Todd used my existing rotor hats, which needed to be milled for those rotors.

What did you do to your MINI? Mine needs new tires and TPMS, as long as I am changing tires.

Does being a BMWCCA member of Patroons allow you to go to track days held by other chapters, like Connecticut Valley?

MrBlah 03-20-2019 04:23 PM

Yes, they even let non club members run if it's not a sold out event

+1

Around here, there are chapters who will also join together to do track events. I have even been to an event that was a combined PCA and BMWCCA event.

MrBlah - Who does the events you attend at VIR? Are there any BMW chapters running there? In the higher run groups, is there the option to have in-car instructors? I ask as I “ponder” the idea of going down there...

Thanks. I'll probably rejoin BMW CCA. A few of SCDA's dates over the next few months conflict with plans I have and I'm anxious to get out. Thanks to my complete inability to leave well enough alone, I'm trying out the Manic tune. As for VIR, I have been pondering one of the SCDA days in September.

Eddie07S 03-21-2019 08:05 AM

Who are you thinking of going to for the Manic Tune? I know of 2 places in northern NJ, but don’t know anything about them. Or will you pull the ECU and send it to someone?

As for SCDA and VIR, I would only do it with them if I knew that I could have an instructor for at least a session or 2. In my opinion, the BMW chapters around here do really well at having really good instructors for all run groups; much better than SCDA. The hard part of doing VIR from here is the trip there and back. That is a lot of miles to put on the MINI. That said, if you get serious about doing it, let me know.

MrBlah 03-21-2019 10:38 AM

Tons of clubs run vir, BMW, Porsche, Audi, mustang, more than I can list or even know.

I like thscc and trackclubusa

Eddie07S 03-21-2019 02:59 PM

Thanks...

I've been able to get SCDA instructors for a session at new tracks by going to Elivan. In fact, I just had one last fall when I did Palmer clockwise for the first. However, I agree it's not as easy to get one as it is with BMWCCA.
For the tune, I looked into KMD Tuning in Saddle Brook, NJ and spoke with them on the phone. I was not all that impressed. I ended up with my go-to performance advisor — Way Motor Works. They have never steered me wrong. I now have the Stage 1 tune with a high-flow downpipe and I'm very satisfied with how it behaves on the road. That's why I'm anxious to try it on the track. The switch lets you go back and forth between the stock tune, +25%, +50% and +100% Pulling the ECU was easy — shipping it was the scary part.

I think I am going to try April 13 with BMWCCA at LRP . It's early but I can always run on my all-seasons if necessary. After that, probably 5/20 with SCDA at LRP and/or 6/4 at Palmer.

Eddie07S 03-24-2019 08:03 AM

Right now, I am struggling to get my BMWCCA card for this year. I paid, have a cancelled check but no card. Their web site isn’t very helpful for this, either. I also have a bunch of work that needs to be done on my MINI. Maintenance stuff like new tires, some oil leaks, surpintine belt replacement, etc.

BTY - if you check Tire Rack you will find that some of the tires are either on sale or are going on sale, as well as some shocks, if people are interested.

Do I need a card to sign up for the day? I'm assuming the online receipt will suffice.

Eddie07S 03-25-2019 07:38 AM

I would sign up as a club member. What they are likely to do is to check your membership. If you have already rejoined, you will be ok. What I have had happen is that they want to see your card when you register on the day of the event.

One more question: With Patroons I don't recall needing to have the car inspected prior to the event. Is that now a requirement with them? When I rejoined I went with the CT Valley chapter and they have a pre-event inspection form that must be signed by by a "dealer, authorized service center or mechanic". I'm starting to think it's just not worth the effort to do a BMWCCA day.
