If either of you (Eddie & GKP) are interested.....I have an almost unused set of DTC 70 pads and 3 bottles of Wilwood 570 brake fluid. Bottles are prolly 8yrs old but unopened...

They’ll fit mine, not GKPs; GKP has the 6 pot caliper. That said, I’ll take them. I’ll pass on the brake fluid, though.

Hey, any chance of talking you back onto the track? Or are you doing the car crew thing?

Eddie07S 04-21-2019 02:54 PM

Hey, pnwR53S - would you be interested in one of those brake pad sets?

Eddie07S 04-29-2019 08:51 AM

Ok - I am going to blame my wife for this one (she is such a wonderful person )

I am now the very proud owner of 2019 John Cooper Works MINI Cooper hatch... Woo Hoo.

The dealer made me an offer I couldn’t pass up and my wife said “So did you buy it?”. Say What? So I had to do it. It is pretty basic. Only options are the metallic black paint, heated seats and bonnet stripes. The power is addictive! And the handling on the twisties is great. The brakes are unbelievable, 13.1” Dia rotors that are 30mm (~1.25”) thick. I still have the 2012 S, which will remain the track car. Although, I am not ruling out taking the JCW to the track.

How dare you post that without a picture! :impatient: NOT COOL!

Sweet! Congratulations.

I'll take the brake fluid. I'll be seeing Eddie07S in two weeks and can bring him the pads. Text me a good time to swing by. Do you still live in the same place in Newtown? If you don't still have my phone number I'll PM it to you.

Eddie07S 05-19-2019 07:46 AM

gkp - great to see you on Friday. Fun day even with the rain! It was great fun to get a chance to play catch up with you. We seem to be pretty evenly matched. I never did see that JCW but my cousin did. He remarked that it was pretty quick down the front and the guy seemed to be a really good driver. Gives me hope for Albert...

I hope to get out again, soon.

Hey, I know this is from a while back, but it is an interesting article on tires that includes the Maxxis tires:

Yes, a good day. I am going to do two SCDA days in June then take July off. By then I may need new tires so thanks for the article. I have a video of me following you in the half-session we did with the instructor group. I will send it to you via Dropbox or a Google link. Even at standard definition it's 200MB.

Eddie07S 05-20-2019 05:50 PM

I haven’t had a chance to even look at the video I took.

Can you post on YouTube?

pnwR53S 05-20-2019 05:55 PM

I second to post on Youtube.

Here you go, boys:

Eddie07S 05-21-2019 08:30 AM

Oh, WOW...
That is the first I have ever seen my car on the track. Gkp - Thanks for posting! :thumbsup

Boy am I missing the apex on West bend and the downhill.
And, boy my car runs really flat through the corners. T1/T2 (Big Bend) is usually 1 g on dry pavement. Unfortunately I didn’t take any data during that session (out of batteries)

gkp - I like your line though T2 and, with all of my ragging about early turn in to the uphill, you are doing that one well. You can carry a bit more speed into that turn and track out further. There is a ton of grip to be had in the compression, but it takes some faith to get there.

Great day!
I’ll be looking at my video and will see if I can post any.

Thanks again!

Ugh!

But a DCT and 300+ Hp? Maybe MINI will return to racing?

S-Driver 05-23-2019 04:25 AM

MINI still does race in Pirelli World Challenge.....the same team that ran them in IMSA. But they wont be back in IMSA running as a TCR car......BMW squashed that effort.

Eddie07S 05-23-2019 04:40 AM

Yah, I had heard that about BMW vs MINI in racing.

But, it seems odd that they would go through the effort to tool up a DCT for the car and not race it. In the JCW the automatic is quite a bit quicker than the stick and is pretty durable. A couple of years ago I talked to the folks at Turner and they said that their smaller race car ran an automatic. I was nearly as quick as the DCT and cheaper to maintain. So, if they already have a worthy automatic, and they aren’t going to race the car, then it seems that the DCT is for “show”. I’ve tried playing with the sequential shifting in our ‘04 MINI and it is tiresome on the road.

S-Driver - I got the pads - Thanks!

S-Driver 05-24-2019 04:38 AM

It may end up that BMW runs a future 1 series in TCR.....which is why they squashed MINI’s effort.

Glad you have the pads...they’ve just been gathering dust. ALL my left over MINI parts I haven’t been able to sell are headed for a dumpster in June.

I thought I would spread the words here. Discount Tire Direct has a 10% rebate for 3 days this weekend starting today. I grabbed another set of R888R consumable even thought I have yet to try my set out. Always read the fine prints on the conditions and I think I read it right. I have done their online rebate and so far not missed a single one.

Hey, anyone up for the SCDA LRP track day on the 17th? I’m about to sign up... Love to have some company.

There is also one on the 13th, but I’m not ready for that one. If anyone goes to that one, let the rest of us know.

I'm already signed up for the 17th so I'll see you there. I did the SCDA day at Palmer yesterday. No other MINIs in sight. I will keep posting photos of Palmer to entice some of you to get up there and drive this track. The cars on the left are on the lowest part. The track winds its way to the upper right. If you like elevation change, Palmer is for you.

Definitely looks like a great track and can be run either directions.
