Kumho V710 Road Course Advise
Kumho V710 Road Course Advise
After about 40 track sessions my Hankook Z212's are now bricks, no grip left but plenty of tread.
Let me say first I did a search and there is a thread on these tires for AUto-X but didn't find much for Road Course use.
I have a set that I bought used. They are about a year old and have 4 Auto-Xs on them. Size is 205/45-16. I've been running a 225/45-17. I am looking for some air pressure advice. A good place to start off. I have access to a probe type pyrometer at the track so I'll check them after each session. Just looking for some ides on starting points.
If needed. Mini is lowered about " with AST Coilovers featuring Swift Springs. mm rear bar on the hard setting.
Alignment as follows:
Front:
Camber -2.6
Toe -.1
Rear:
Camber -1.8
Toe -0.0 Not really 0 but not as much as 0.1
I hope to get at least 3 track days out of these. I'll be ordering Yoko A048's on Monday.
There is a bit of urgency in this request. I'll be back at the track tomorrow.
Thanks

Here is what I learned.
Started pressures at the following. Keep in mind the track this past weekend is mostly lefts, so the right front tire does the most work.
Start:
FR 31psi
FL 32 psi
RR 33psi
RL 34psi
Sidewalls were marked with a tire crayon to determine if the whole tire is being used.
After the first session the pressures in the rear were dropped 1 psi each and all was good.

basically you're marking the shoulder to check for rollover, you can use a paint marker, chalk, shoe polish, etc... Just make a has mark on across the shoulder of the tire and see where is wears down to (usually on R-compunds, or morst sporting tires, there's a little arrow to indicate where the shoulder ends) if your right on it you're perfect way off it too much pressure past it too little.
Just one note with r-compunds the side walls on these tires are considerable stiffer so you do have a larger range of what will acheive this reading, best bet is to check you're pressrues when you come off, ideally you want to finish in the low 40's. Even better is to get a pyrometer and check your temps when you come off (considerable more expensive than the other options here), most tire manufacturers will give you a range that their tire works best in. Phils tire service gives good info for where to start with pressure wise:
