Mirror Haze

I seem to have some type of haze on my side mirrors. It will not come off with normal glass cleaner. I looks like someone used a rag with some type of solvent or something on it. I notice it more when the sun is behind the car.

Does anyone have an idea what I may use to remove whatever this is?

jeremy, i think JMH is talking about an actual swirl haze, not stains.

my car also came with swrils and i tried scratchx on it before with no
success. my next plan of action is to get the new griot's 3" oribital
(due out 3/30) and use my polishes to take it out.

You are right. It looks as if someone used a towel with some type of chemical on it. I can not feel it or remove it; it's as if it is IN the glass. I also see it in the rearview. Let me know if you come up with something, it is driving me nuts. I am thinking of replacing the glass.

Tip - buy multivex mirrors - they're "real" glass mirrors... and the optical quality of them is WAY WAY better than stock mirrors - super clear and super bright...

Oh yeah, and nobody can sneak up on your from behind or from the side...

I actually have this too, there are clear small scratches in a wiping motion on my driver's side mirror. Drives me insane. They've been there for a good 2 years. I have no idea how they got there, and I've tried several products including zaino glass polish to no avail.
Too small to take the polisher to it.

Where do you get them and are they a custom fit or made to fit the MINI?

have you tried claying your windows and see what happens. if its just some product from someone's dirty rag it may do the trick. claying can work some magic if used properly.

you can apply a paint cleaner to the window. i know of people that have applied M80 to the window to help clear it up.

www.multivexmirror.com

shopping, select "All Euro Cars" or something like that - then scroll down. They're a perfect fit for pre-2007 MINIs. I don't think they've added 2007 sizes yet - but I understand they they'll custom cut anything you want if you provide a template of your OEM mirror shape.

Do they stick over old mirrors, or if not are they an easy install? I currently have a blind spot mirror that I use all the time, but the real thing would be nicer.

Yep - they stick on easily with super foam tape, and if you don't know it they look stock. Using some black silicone sealant around the upper 3/4 of the circumference helps seal in the heat and keep the defoggers working (if you have the cold weather package).

UPDATE - I treated my cabrio top with 303 Protectant today and got over spray on the back window. After trying the various glass cleaners, nothing was removing it. So I grabbed my wife's nail polish remover and it worked on the back window . . . AND THE HAZE ON MY MIRRORS. I took some elbow grease, but it worked.

Just a paper towel. It smelled as bad as when my wife removes nail polish, but at least this time it was to MY benefit.

the side mirrors are actually plastic, right, and not glass? I try to never wipe them unless very washed and rinsed off....I wouldn't use paper towels as I know they can scratch plastic spectacle lenses ...Microfiber is fine though or cotton cloth......if the mirrors are really plastic or polycarbonate I would not try the nail polish remover as the acetone will cut through polycarb like a 'hot knife through butter'

Which is why I like the REAL GLASS multivex mirrors.

Really - the clarity of the reflection is a night and day difference - like analog vs. HDTV.

yep, they are plastic...but if 3000 grit takes the haze out along with some
polishing, not a bad thing.
