Using Correct Clear/Paint for Repair

Hi all, not sure if this should be in general or here so feel free to move it.

This past weekend some moron opened his door into my PS door in a parking lot and scuffed the paint, what looks to be, down to the primer. I got his insurance info and I'm going to get it repaired. The insurance company wants me to use the local shop to do the repair. My MINI dealer is a good 3.5 hrs away from here. Being that it is a fairly minor repair I think the local place might be able to do the job right. But, what I'm worried about is them using some inferior paint/clear to do the job. So it will look great when I pick it up, but be fading/yellowing/dull or just not holding up the same way the rest of the MINI spec paint/clear system does.

Does anybody know what exact paint/clear the factory uses? I want to specify the exact stuff to these guys.

Thanks in advance...

I would go to the forum for your local area and see if anyone can recommend a body shop near you. That's what I'd do in your situation - find who MINI owners near me recommend.

Did they actually peel the paint, or does it just look like a paint transfer scuff?

Other local MINIs are a long shot, I'm in Central PA. A good 3 hrs from any Mini dealer. So I literally go months between seeing another MINI. There is a BMW dealer here, but everyone I talk to has a VERY low opinion of them.

The damage is a pretty good scuff, with a little dent. Its definitely something that needs fixed by a pro. No way, to "buff it out". (Like the moron who hit it and all the idiots in his van were saying! ) The estimate I got today from this shop was $268. The insurance company says I can take it anywhere I want, but the work won't be "guaranteed" then. Although, I'm not sure what good that guarantee is. So if they screw it up I can reject it and have them screw it up again? Useless.

Good idea, about finding a BMW approved shop. I'll have to give my MINI dealer a call and see what they say.
