I think I have a learned an essential lesson about the hygiene of life: while it might be okay to not wash a car for 5 months it's not okay for an oven.
Now see that is sad. I know I wash my MINI far more often than I clean my oven. In fact, you can clean an oven ?
I have come to terms with reality and it is sitting in the parking lot right now covered with Mag Chloride overspray.
This does not mean that I have given up trying to keep my daily driver clean and well kept, it just means that I can only do what I can do and still drive it.
doing the best we can do is all we should strive for.
nothing more.
I think anyone who knows me would agree that I am a MINI enthusiast...
I have a life beyond caring for my car....
It is much loved,....
but it's my car, not my child.
ok so... yes , no , yes , no ... well, which is it? are you a MINI enthusiast
enough to post in the detailing forum or not?
Well, that's why I think this was my 1st post in the detailing room. But the original poster and a couple of the responses got my goat and I wanted it back.
Has anyone else seen how many dirty Mini's are on the road. These must be the few that don't care about their cars. I see a purple Mini that is now brown with so much brake dust its sickening. Some dude has a BRG MCS that is filthy from top to bottom, front to back. Its not hard people. It takes $3 and 5 minutes at a car wash. Or, 15 minutes and a hose at home. And don't give me this too cold whatnot. I stood in 25 degree wind on Sunday at the car wash to wash my car because she was dirty. Then again, I like 'em dirty, but not my car. Yes it gets dirty quickly because of its shape, but so what. You really can tell who cares and who dosen't.
I agree it is a shame to see people who don't have the time or desire to keep their Mini clean. However, at least they're driving the thing and enjoying it! I ran in to someone the other day who said: "my Cooper S is a 2002 and I have 18,000KMs on it!!!!!" That's 4500 KMs per year/ 375km per month.....why bother!!! Rent one instead!
But I wonder if it is appropriate (probably not) to impose upon this virtuous group to ask if anyone knows how to clean an oven (GE Profile electric circa 2001). Sorry to bring this up, but perhaps it's similar to cleaning a car? I don't know where the oven manual is (I suspect it's with my MINI manual). Last September, I sprayed Easy Off oven cleaner in there and thought it was going to evaporate and take the grease with it. Next day it was just ugly white powder mixed with dried grease and unidentified reddish-brown bits. Nearly 5 months later the situation hasn't changed. I'm becoming afraid to go near it.

You have to wipe off the Easy-Off after it's done. I forget how long it has to sit...but go get the heavy-duty version, spray it down really well, let it sit for however long it says (half an hour? I think...) and then wipe it out using paper towels or a sponge that you don't care much about. If it's been a really long time you might have to do it another time or two...but it should all come off eventually.

that's less than i do a month... wow. thing must be sparkly clean.
Dont jump to conclusions when you see a dirty MINI, during the Winter mine gets dirty within days of washing it, I try to keep it clean but sometime it is just useless, whenever the good weather rolls around again I wash my baby knowing she will be one dirty girl in a few days though

Thanks for the instructions. I appreciate your having removed the puzzlement from the process. Didn't know there was such a thing as a heavy duty Easy Off, but I will ask at my local supermarket. With a bag of sponges to use and dispose, rubber gloves and a gas mask I will be set. I pledge to clean my oven this coming weekend and shall issue invitations to friends for dinner the following week. Now I'm excited about doing this.
Last weekend I washed my car at the DYI wash--it was so dirty some of the black dots would not come off so I have left them for next time. But it was sunny, clear and the temperature was in the high 60s--sweatshirt and shorts kinda Sunday--and perfect for being out there with the MINI. A few bums were lurking around and other carwashers blasted their radios, but instead of being annoyed I appreciated that they add to the piquancy of the melting pot that is America. Think I will save that for a speech.
So, some folks use the Mini for their main transportation, some use it for a toy, some make a race car out of it and some have it as their obsession. Wonder if that accounts for the different ways we clean our Mini's. Isn't choice and individualism wonderful!!
