I hate to tell you, but have you looked around Richmond...everything looks that way. Its the natural patina for Richmond.

Honestly if you drive fast enough people won't be able to tell whether the cars clean or not, they just know it's quick. It's all about where your priorities lie my friend. Really, if i had the choice between having someone saying "you must have washed that" or "damn that's fast, what's under there?" i would choose the latter
Hey, you are a relative newbie on NAM, so you may not be aware of this, but you really must watch your language on this site. Please re-read the Site Guidelines, paying particular attention to Guidelines #2 and #4.

2. RESPECT
When posting, both members and vendors must ALWAYS be respectful of fellow members and vendors. Personal attacks and flames will not be tolerated. If you feel you are being attacked, report the post or private message rather than replying or flaming back.

4. CLEAN
Do not post explicit, obscene or vulgar language and do not solicit or offer explicit, X-rated, or similar content. Use of the private messaging system in this way is also prohibited.

This advice applies to everyone posting in this thread.

Also, I edited the thread's title to better reflect that it is a discussion about dirty MINIs.

for some odd reason I wish my MINI would get really dirty so that I can give it a really good wash, whenever i was my car it feels like im only washing the rear, and the two front wheels and nothing else ever gets dirty

I hate washing mine, but am so OCD about it it drives me crazy. Now that I have quit smoking I have some nervous energy to burn off and thus gives me the perfect opportunity to clean my wheels after each days drive, and a quick QD, damn there is some dust on the MINI , gotta go

And don't give me this too cold whatnot. I stood in 25 degree wind on Sunday at the car wash to wash my car because she was dirty. Then again, I like 'em dirty, but not my car. Yes it gets dirty quickly because of its shape, but so what. You really can tell who cares and who dosen't.
Man get over it, how someone takes care of there MINI is there problem. Not everyone is you and wants to wash there car out in 25 degree cold.

I hate to admit it but my MINI has been a rolling disaster area lately. We have a 3 month at home, 1 day a weekend to do stuff and that darn time thing that makes the sun go down before I get home. Just don't have the time. Plus I would rather it be filthy than run it through any kind of car wash. You never know if a dirty truck just went though it leaving mud and rocks to be thrown.

it is truly shameful not to take care of things you own.

and, for those who wish to have a new car but couldnt afford it or a car at all, it is a mockery and selfish not to care for it at all.

My car stays dirty when it's below 35 degrees. I have learned the lesson of the car wash the hard way more than once when I thought I couldn't stand the dirt - the effects of the car wash are much worse! I'll spray it off at the coin-op, but no touching unless it's warm enough to do by hand in the driveway.

The key is to keep a good coat of polymer on there...the salt sitting on the polymer is better than marring the finish by attempting a half-a$$ed wash job.

I don't know how people get their cars washed where I live. My building doesn't allow any car tinkering and the area is too congested to wash the car on the street. But the Porsches and Mercedes are always clean and a new couple have a Bentley Continental that is pristine. But my immediate neighbors and I like to keep our cars looking functional. Enough grit so they don't get mistaken for trophies. However I admit I did not wash my car for 3 months because I kept remembering the warnings I used to read on NAM about the evils of using the car wash--even racing great Mario Andretti's touchless drive through about a quarter mile away from me. So is it better to have a dirty car or use the touchless car wash?

Salt

i live in salt lake and washing my mini only keeps it clean for about a day, then the salt starts to cake on, my black trim turns white as does my black roof. if it is wet out, it won't even stay clean for a day. i want my mini clean but its a loosing battle when you have to use your mini as a daily driver in utah.

dont worry. sounds like in your neighborhoods no one will mistaken your
car as a trophy even if clean. it's better to have a dirty car if
your car sits outside frozen. if you cycle your car through a lot of
freezing/deicing (ie: you park inside a garage above freezing) you'll want
to wash it often. i mean, almost every 2-3 days. that is as equivalent
as a commuter car parked outside frozen through the winter washed maybe
once. seriously, i tried this through the years.

I don't think anyone said that Ken!

I actually like cleaning my MINI. It is a daily driver and it does get totally trashed with salt and muck and it has been too cold to do a thorough cleaning of late, but I like a clean MINI and I like to do what I can to keep it that way.

I have no other hobbies - I'm a looser .
(Please send me $1,000)

Thanks.

First little snowfall of the season came on Sunday. Commuting yesterday after the salt and chemicals were put down and now we have two REALLY dirty boots !! Not to mention the bonnets, roofs, doors, etc. But man, those boots are F I L T H Y.

If it's above freezing when I get home this evening, I'll be washing both of the MINIs... a quickie, at least, to get the nasty chemicals off there !!

I washed my MINI a total of one time since last year's Dragon Run in May. It may or may not get a nice detailing (or even just a washing) before this year's event.
