Leather steering wheel upkeep

I did a search but all I got was topics pertaining to leather seats

The leather on my three spokes has a nice matte finish to it. I would like to know what people are using to maintain the leather on the steering wheel while keeping the matte finish. I'm afraid if I use the wrong treatment, the leather will end up too glossy.

Maintenance

I just use a little soap and water on a damp rag to get the dirt off. I try not to use Windex because it ruins the leather. Otherwise, I believe that the oil from your hands should be good enough to moisturize the leather.

Go to the grocery store, to the laundry department, and pick up a bar of Kirk's Castille soap. About $1.49. Excellent for cleaning leather without stripping the oils. Also doesn't add any kind of shine.

Great Stuff. It has been used on leather forever....I've personally used it for about 30 years

if its a newer car, they will have leather ones, early cars (like mine), has a fake leather steering wheel.. and its ripping apart..... especially around the thumb rest, i guess racing suede gloves dont help it either...

but i used to use some leather cleaner by Byron.... then follow by their creme... stunning results... nice and soft

Hidefood

Been using it for years ...recommended by Rolls royce, Porsche etc....second choice is Lexol 2 step cleaner and conditioner ph balanced...

Hide food is expensive but worth it IMHO! All I use on my leather interior in the Mini! Keep the leather from cracking!

and wiping it down.

Zaino has a nice pair of leather cleaner spray and leather conditioner.

On the MINI, I'll use the cleaner sparingly on the wheel... only if I feel the dirt on the wheel... it's black anyway and hides most of the dirt. I might use a drop or two of the leather conditioner, but I use it very sparingly and buff off w/ a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove any excess and knock down the shine. Most of the time I just let the oils from my hands do the job so I don't run the risk of making the wheel slick.

My wife drives an SUV with a tan leather wheel. Unfortunately, she has to park with a valet service and the guy's hands are nasty from a conveyor belt elevator device they use in the parking garage. I have to clean the wheel every weekend. I've noticed a change in texture from the too frequent cleanings, so I have to follow up w/ the leater conditioner every time and be a bit more liberal with it. Again, I take a clean microfiber and give it a pretty agressive 'scrub' to remove any excess oils.

Many companies make a leather cleaner and conditioner. Like your hair you need one to clean and remove all oils, and other to add the right ones back.

But if you're in my position and have vinyl seats you don't normally have a need for the products. My poor steering wheel and shift **** are over due for some TLC but I don't want to buy products that I will barely use.
The best tip is to find a friend who has leather seats and cleaning products and borry a tiny bit of theirs.

Agreed. I'll use their leather wipes for routine maintenance and every few months use the cream version of the leather cleaner/conditioner.

But the best preventative maintenance tool I've found are leather driving gloves!

^^ best preventative maintenance is to keep your car garaged
during the week.

my G35C with premium package shows no sign of leather drying.
