window pillar peeling back

Hi,
I don't know if I'm in the right spot, but I'm encountering a bit of a problem with the driver side pillar that is closest to the front window. It's starting to peal away from the car and I'm wondering who and how I can get this fixed? It's a 2003 mini with 36400 miles so I'm out of warranty. I think I am out of warranty. Got the car used. Nearest mini dealership is over an 2 hours away and I'd hate to have to drive down there again.

Anyways, if anybody has any ideas I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Matthew

Interior or exterior? You talking about the A-post (next to the windshield) or the B-post (where the door latches)?

What exactly do you mean by peeling? Coming unglued (exterior) or coming unsnapped (interior) is possible.

Good questions there.

It is the A post...the thick one between front door and the front windshield and it is on the exterior. It is separating from what looks like the metal of the car. It is peeling from top right to left as you are looking from the side of the car facing the driver's side door. The part of the plastic along the left side (closest to the windshield) is still attached but I'm afraid the pressure of the A post will eventually pop off more of the plastic.

I'm sure a picture would be better off. But I'll have to do that later.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Matthew

Oh, it looks like it is becoming unglued.

I have heard of this before...especially a problem on older Mini's, but have never experienced it myself.

I would carefully pry it off and re-install with silicone adhesive. Or if you think it is something the dealer might fix gratis because they sold you the car then you might try that. Not too much mystery with trim pieces, though.

Many Thanks!

I'll have to give the dealership a call.

It is simply a cheap plastic trim piece. They are known to have actually fly off on people just driving down the highway. They are often broken when replacing the windshield. Contact your parts department for the exterior a-pillar cover. I just pops off and on with clips.
